"The mandate of JCHAC is to reach out into the community," said a news release, issued by the JCHAC. "With Elder Art we will not only curate and hang the work of older artists who have had successful careers as artists, we pay homage with their stories." The exhibit will showcase the artwork for four artists between the ages of 83-95, who are still perfecting their craft, including Inez Demuynck, Gisela Sommer, Shirley Erskine and Sybil Rampen. The four have lived through the Great Depression, the First World War and Second World War. "The word `elder' brings to mind, wisdom, intelligence, creativity and respect -- all of which describes these wonderful artists," according to the release. "This exhibition showcases their artwork and includes various mediums from fibre art to watercolours, origami sculptures to acrylics and oils. Something for everyone." The show will have an opening tea party at the 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E. art centre on Sunday (Dec. 7) from 2-5 p.m. Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre plans on making this exhibit an annual show. Elder Art exhibit Capture Oakville showcase Submissions for this year's Capture Oakville contest will be featured in an exhibit opening Friday (Dec. 5). Held in the main gallery at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd., the exhibition opens at 7 p.m. and goes until Jan. 25, 2015. Teachers from the Oakville Suzuki Orchestra will be performing in the gallery from 7-8:15 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. The evening coincides with the awards ceremony for this year's contest winners, as well. Awards will be handed out for the following categories: Capture Oakville; Motion; Black and White; Portrait; Film and Polaroid; Tell a Story; and Smartphonography.
