T he T itans, w ho ham m ered the N otre D am e F ighting Irish 28-10 last Friday in O akville to qualify for p o st season play, will m eet the top-seeded A ssum ption C rusaders in a D ivision 1 sem ifinal contest. A ssum ption rolled to a 5-0 record in regular season play, including a 4419 victory o ver the Titans earlier this O h brother! H oly T rin ity 's defence recovered five Irish fum bles and intercepted a p air o f passes, allow ing only a long touchdow n pass at the end o f the first h alf and a 28-yard field goal early in the third quarter. D efensive linem an V ictor Skoko led the way, forcing and recovering a pair o f fum bles, w hile Jim m y Lewis also pounced on a dropped ball for H oly Trinity. M eanw hile, the T itan s' offensive line paved the w ay for solid rushing perform ances by D rew V anderjagt and Steve Turner. All four Holy T rinity m ajors cam e on the ground, including a 52-yard rom p by V anderjagt to open the scoring. "W e (have) an aw ful lot o f good guys this year and it took us a w hile but now w e've je lle d ," said V anderjagt. a 16-year-old G rade 11 student w ho also had a 12-yard touchdow n run in the th ird quarter. " W e're hungry and w e 're ready for A ssum ption. N ext w eek w e 'll com e to w ork." M att D ow ney put the T itans up 2110 w ith a o ne-yard plunge in the final qu arter and T urner capped the scoring w ith an 11-yard run late in regulation. Holy T rinity and A ssum ption will kick o ff at 2 p.m . in B urlington w ith the w in n er m oving on to next w ee k 's H alton final against eith er the N elson Lords or L oyola H aw ks. N elson blanked the H aw ks 31-0 last Friday at L o y o la to finish w ith a 4-1 record and gain hom e-field advantage in the opening round. L oyola fell to 3-2 w ith N otre D am e (1-4) and M .M . R obinson (0-5) rounding o ut the D ivision 1 stand ings. T he L ords and H aw ks also play this Friday at 2 p.m . in Burlington. Atom Stampeders can clinch home field advantage in semifinal round with a win this Sunday It w as a m ud bow l at N elson Stadium in Burlington on Sunday as the atom S tam p ed ers to o k on the Young Bucs from York/Sim coe. The field w as in very poor condi tion due to the rain and the big guys from the B urlington Braves playing the night before. But the footing didn't slow dow n the Stam ps as they overpow ered the visitors en route to a 62 - 0 victory. The atom S tam peders are bolstered by a strong contingent o f athletes from O ak v ille, in c lu d in g M arcus B abic, Dustin D eG iorgis, E lliott Robinson, M athew M ontgom ery, M ike Ventolla, Taylor Stanley and E tienne Francouer. T he sam e is true for all o f the Stam peder team s in all five divisions in Burlington and w e'll be highlighting them in future issues. T he atom Stam ps have one m ore regular season gam e next Sunday in Scarborough against the alw ays dan gerous Thunder. A w in will clinch a sem ifinal hom e playoff date for the Stam ps on Nov. 9. O akville highlights: M arcus B abic scored a touchdow n on a 34-yard sw eep. E tienne Francouer tossed a beauti ful 44-yard touchdow n pass (to M att Lasw ell). H e also picked o ff a pass. D ustin D eG iorgis shared kicking duties w ith M arcus Babic and the tw o com bined to m ake seven o f eight con verts. T aylor S tan ley and M athew M o n tg o m ery (along w ith C h ris Pezzeetta), on the defensive line, had constant pressure on the B uc's QB.
