www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, November 28, 2014 | 12 Flash mob promotes show supporting HSH by Nathan Howes Special to the Beaver St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic School students recently spread some unexpected joy to patrons at Oakville Place -- in the hope of spreading more to others in the future. A group of 59 Grade 8 students unleashed a flash mob on Wednesday, Nov. 19 on the first floor of the mall, performing a rendition of Joy to the World, twice. They also distributed flyers to promote Home Suite Hope's (HSH) upcoming Christmas-themed concert, A Merry Night, on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Oakville's The Meeting House. HSH is a local charitable organization that provides transitional housing, education and training to single-parent families facing homelessness in Halton. "They were so excited to get started that someone pushed the play button for the music, so the group that was there started and then the rest of students still getting off the bus joined in. We did it a second time and it was perfection," said Lyn Hartman, school Chamber Welcomes New Government Relations Expert The Oakville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Faye Lyons has joined the Chamber team as the new Vice President, Government Relations and Advocacy. "We are thrilled that Faye has joined the chamber team. I have no doubt that her high level of skills and expertise in government relations will prove very valuable to our members," said Chamber Chair Kerry Colborne. Faye replaces Steve Bright who is leaving the chamber to build his public affairs and communications business, drawing on more than 20 years of experience in a range of sectors. He continues to be an active chamber member. "I had the pleasure of meeting and working with a lot of great people during almost four years at the chamber," said Steve. "They highlight the many strengths of Oakville and the reasons why I live, work and volunteer in this vibrant community." council chair and vice-chair of the Halton Catholic District School Board's (HCDSB) Catholic Parent Involvement Committee. "It was amazing to see all of these kids not even worry about being selfconscious. They were so focused on creating a presence and giving out flyers." The event was also held to "highlight the prevalent and, too often, invisible homelessness and poverty that exists in our very own community," Hartman said. "People think Oakville is immune to this, but so much of this happens in our own backyard. That's why we feel so strongly when the kids say they are willing to do whatever they need to do to help," said Hartman. "A lot of these kids do come from middle-class families or well-todo families, but they really do see that there is something bigger than themselves. We're very, very proud of them."
