Local peace makers earn a nod by Herb Garbutt Oakville Beaver Staff 5 | Friday, November 21, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Youth Junction of Chartwell Church has undertaken some international projects such as building homes in Central America. And while that house dramatically changes the life of someone thousands of miles away , it also changes the lives of many more closer to home. "We do these cool things, like building a house in Guatemala, but what we really love is what happens when we come back," says youth pastor Sarah McCallum. McCallum said the youth who take part in such projects return home inspired to continue their community service at home. "They learn to live, not in a selfish way, but in a way serving to others," says youth pastor Paul Cade. The Youth Junction was awarded the peace medallion for groups Wednesday at the YMCA of Oakville Community Breakfast for Peace.
