Oakville has a lot to cheer about Oakville has a lot to cheer about! At the Power Cheerleading Athletics national champi onships at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga this past weekend. Oakville schools combined for no less than three national medals. Leading the way. in the eight-team junior division (grades 6-8) was H eritage G len who capped off a perfect season with a gold medal. They had also won gold at the previous week's provin cials and earlier at the regionals and at a tune-up com peti tion they entered at White Oaks. W hat's more, this team never trailed once in any compe tition. Just an awesome year. River Oaks also competed but fell just short. Although Oakville was denied the gold medal in the 19team high school competition, they did cart away the rest of the medals. Perennial powerhouse Blakelock (see adjacent photo) gained some consolation with a national silver medal, after struggling at last week's provincials. And W hite O aks proved they were no flash in the pan. after winning the provincial championship the previous week, as they finished with the bronze medal.
