According to Barrett, the asphalt was scalding hot, around 600F when loaded. The Ministry of the Environment was contacted, as was Team I Environmental to carry out the clean-up of the asphalt. According to Const. Motz. the QEW was closed in both directions for about 20 minutes while the air ambulance landed. In July 2000. a 28-year old Ancaster man was killed when the tanker truck he was driving rolled on the newly-opened ramp from Royal Windsor Drive. The truck, owned by the Jeffbrett Group of Dundas, was being driven by Cory Dufour when the vehicle rolled over into the ditch while negotiating the ramp. An air ambulance crew rushed to the scene and assisted, but Dufour was pronounced dead at the scene.
