By Howard Mozel ( >.\KVILLE BEA V ER STAFF Post Inn Village is not simply a much-needed long term care facility, say its supporters, but an important component of the Oak Park commu nity at large. During Monday's groundbreak ing, held near the site at Tribute Homes' sales centre on Glenashton Boulevard and attended by Premier Ernie Eves, area politicians touted the many benefits of integrating Post Inn residents within their neighbour hood. According to Regional Chair Joyce Savoline, the 228-bed Post Inn will be much more than merely bricks and mortar but a place where the residents and stall will create a special "spirit." The last thing the Region wants, Savoline continued, is to isolate sen iors and to that end a professional childcare centre w ill be part of the building in addition' to a " main street" concourse featuring a dental office, hair salon and restorative care area - all overlooking the front porch. "The enhanced living environ ment will greatly improve the quali ty of life for the seniors we care for at this facility." said Sheldon Wolfson, Barrie Erskine · Oakville Beaver fam ily DentiSffy ZV. Halton Region's Director of Senior Services. To top it all off, a new regional ambulance station will be built as part of the building. "This is a very appropriate way to integrate (residents) into the commu nity," said Eves, who agreed that addressing the lifestyle concerns of seniors is an important piece of the overall healthcare puzzle. "At the end of the day what's important is what goes on inside the building." In short, said Eves, the Post Inn concept will provide residents the dignity they've earned. " Seniors have made a profound contribution to our quality of life in Ontario and they deserve the best care and comfort the system can provide." According to Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh. in whose riding Post Inn falls, the 1 .664 beds slated for Halton will do a lot to reduce pressure on area hospitals. "These beds will provide the access to quality healthcare that the people of Halton require." he said. Scheduled to open in the summer of 2(X)4. the Region-owned and operated Post Inn Village will include two resident home areas with 32 residents per floor. Designed by Boigon, Petroff, Shepherd, Architects Inc.. the facility will phys ically blend into the community and feature two dining rooms that seat 16. Other amenities range from gen erously sized bedrooms to a host of finishing touches to assist residents and support their independence. " As mayor, to say I'm delighted with getting these beds is an under statement," said Mayor Ann Mulvale, who added that she's extremely pleased Post Inn will allow residents to age in-place and ensure the "comfort and continuity" of couples.
