D 2 - The Oakville Beaver, W e d n e sd a y M a rc h 26, 2003 Short course season is long on highlights for Oakville Aquatic Club As the short course (25m) competitive swim ming season comes to a close, the Oakville Aquatic Club (O A K ) finds itself with a long list of high lights. The short season ended with two major compe titions for Oakville swimmers: · the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships. More (han 5(X) swimmers representing more than I (X) clubs from Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI. Newfoundland and Manitoba traveled to London to compete with the best youth ( I6&under) and senior (17 & over) national swim mers in Canada; · and the Ontarip Junior Provincial Championships, held in Nepean. Ontario with over 8(X) swimmers and 89 Ontario clubs competing in age categories 17 & under. (Speedo Eastern) At the Speedo Eastern Championships. Oakville swimmers competed under the Toronto (TO) allstar banner, consisting of top swimmers from Oakville, Toronto, Mississauga. Milton and Brampton. OAK swimmers helped their TO teammates take down all 113 clubs to a clear victory in the youth division, as well as a second place overall combined team finish, only 112 points behind the CAM O swim club, a conglomerate swim club rac ing out of Montreal. Quebec. Considering that CAM O brought 139 swim mers and TO stars competed with only 49. the final placing for TO stars was outstanding. O f the 49 TO swimmers. 13 swim for the Oakville Aquatic Club. The most outstanding performances came from M arco M onaco who was named Best Overall Performer in the Youth Male category. Monaco also walked away with the Youth Male High Point Award as well as Youth Champion in the 200 breaststroke. 2(X) Individual Medley and 400 Individual Medley and the silver medal in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and bronze in the 400 freestyle. Another victory came when Oakville teammates Ju stin a DiFazio and Jackie C han were part of the National Record Breaking 4x50 Freestyle Relay which also included Jennifer P orenta (Milton) and N adine M cAdam (Toronto). The girls also took silver in the 4x100 free. 4x100 medley and 4x50 medley relays.
