B2 - The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday October 29, 2003 -- Bikeathon fundraiser for cancer at Painters Place The staff at Painters Place will keep the pedals turning on a stationary bike this Saturday to raise funds for the Oakville Unit o f the Canadian Cancer Society. "Nine of us will keep the bike going all day," said Debbie Marshall, store man ager of Painters Place at the Rio Centre at 478 Dundas St., at Neyagawa Boulevard. The nine-hour bikeathon will end a m onth-long fundraising campaign at the store through one of its sup pliers, Benjamin Moore Paints, which donated $1 from the sale o f every gallon can of paint to the Cancer Society in October. "Each store has the option of doing something extra, so we decided to ride a stationary bike and chal lenge our other store in M ississauga to see which store will raise the most money," said Marshall. An equal number o f peo ple will be riding a station ary bike at Painters Place at Glen Erin Drive and Thomas Street in Mississauga. Both stores are owned by Tom Marino. "We have donation sheets in the store, and we've been canvassing friends and fami ly," said Marshall. "W e're doing this because all of us at this store have been touched by can cer," she continued.
