Much to her delight, the Canadian Landmine Foundation nominated her to receive a Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal "for your support of the global effort to eradicate landmines." The letter came from Rumi Bujold. foundation chairman, explaining the medal is being "awarded to persons who. like you. have made a significant contribution to Canada, to their community or to their fellow Canadians." Andrews, a member of the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar since 1996. became involved with the Canadian Landmine Foundation after she heard its president, Frank O'Dea, speak at an International Youth Activism Conference three years ago. She was motivated into action. She got the club involved with the Adopt a Minefield pro gram in 2000 and has hosted two Night of a Thousand Dinner events to raise funds to eradicate landmines. She speaks at other Rotary Clubs about ridding the world of landmines. Andrews recently attended a Landmine Conference in Seattle hosted by Rotary and the U.S. State Department which passed a resolution asking Rotary International to adopt landmine action and to create a task force. `i'v e been involved in the landmine issue since I first joined Rotary," said Andrews, who divides her time between St. Mildred's Lightbourn School and the Victorian Order of Nurses' Corporate Wellness services. The dual career woman works in health care and teaching at St. Mildred's, and is involved with immunization programs, health monitoring and health education for the VON. A resident of Oakville for 20 years. Andrew s trained as a reg istered nurse and midwife in her native England, and has lived and worked as a midwife in Cape Town. South Africa, and as a teacher in the United Arab Emirates. She is married to Bruce Owen-Wahl. a member of the Rotary Club of Oakville North. The couple has five children. Andrews is a board member of the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar. Rotary and faculty advisor for the Oakville Interact Clubs, sits on Rotary District 7080 Landmine Action Committee, and is Adult Chair of the Oakville Youth Development Centre. Outside of Rotary', and work, she is an Outreach committee member, calligrapher and chal ice bearer at St. Jude's Anglican Church. Stephane Sauve, along with co-owners Kerry Campbell and Paul Asaris, has been al Paradiso for over two and a half yean.. Sauve, who brings over 20 years of experience in the Oakville restaurant business to Paradiso, says customers enjoy the warm, cozy atmosphere, the friendly staff and, above all. the homemade cuisine.
