The CISAA also commands respect from OFSAA organizers. Waterloo's St. John's-Kilmarnock, one of the association's members, won four straight provincial golds from 200609. "My hope was to be a top-four seed. Our performance in the league was pretty dominant, and we did beat Nelson," Creelman said. "If we play our best field hockey, we can definitely be in the semifinals. At that point, anything really can happen." Kitchener's Resurrection, runnersup last year after winning three straight OFSAA titles, is the top seed in this week's tournament. Appleby's first game at OFSAA was to be a 9 a.m. clash today with Parkside at Nelson. The Blue Dogs and Loyola were then slated to face off at Norton Field today at 12:30 p.m. Appleby will conclude out its preliminary-round schedule tomorrow versus Pickering at Nelson, a 9 a.m. start. Loyola's other games were to be at 10:30 a.m. today against Pickering (at Nelson) and at 9 a.m. tomorrow against Parkside (at Norton). The quarter-finals will begin at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow at Norton and neighbouring Frank J. Hayden high school. Semifinals are slated for 9 a.m. Saturday at Nelson and Assumption high school. The 12 p.m. bronze game and 2 p.m. final will both be contested Saturday at Nelson. Appleby, which won all of its Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association field hockey league games this season in comfortable fashion, is seeded third in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations tournament that began today (Thursday) in Burlington. "There's no question, the level of play we're going to see is very strong," said Appleby coach Sharon Creelman, a three-time field hockey Olympian whose team has been pooled with sixth-ranked Pickering, St. Thomas's Parkside and Oakville's Loyola Hawks. "All the teams in our pool are dangerous. Pickering is a perennial power at OFSAA and is pretty seasoned in terms of tournament play, having to play six games over three days. I've been telling our girls it's a test of attrition." Making its first OFSAA appearance in Creelman's 14 years at the school, Appleby isn't very familiar with many teams outside of the CISAA. The Blue Dogs did, however, defeat Burlington's Nelson Lords -- the No. 4 seed which downed Loyola in both the Halton and Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference finals -- 3-1 last month.
