In the next few days students there will have completed a total of 500 Christmas cards for Community Care which will be mailed to senior citizens and shut-ins. Community Care provides the material and the school donates the manpower. This is the school's second year for the project. GM Starting Construction of New Quality Control Bldg. General Motors of Canada bas announced the start of construction of the company's new Quality Control Building. The new facility will be occupied in February, 1980 by several departments displac- ed by construction of GM's new multi-million dollar paint operation building at its Oshawa Car Assembly Plant. "The new Wentworth Street facility will be home for administrative offices for the Source Survey, Reliability and Quality Emphasis depart- ments. It will also provide modern new facilities for the Central Quality Cohtrol Chemical and Metallurgical Laboratories and Central Precision Inspection which are involved largely with component testing, problem resolution and sample approval programs. A large well-equipped facility for the preservieing of company and Customer Delivery vehicles will also be located here," said W. J. Harris, Director of Reliability. Architectural features of the building include a low profile; attractive, precast concrete panels; anodized aluminum panelling to resist corrosion; and recessed south and west windows which take advantage of low winter sun but shield from hot summer sun. Special landscaping will enhance the building and its surrounding neighborhood. The new building also includes many energy conservation features such as indirect and task lighting in the office, triple glazed windows, extra wall and roof insulation and minimized air leakage construction to be confined by an air infiltration check upon building comple- tion. Dimensions of the new building will be approximate- ly 197 feet long by 212 feet wide by 14 feet high, with a higher service section 152 feet long by 71 feet wide by 19 feet high.
