Glen Prout is the new president of the Unit for 1979-80 with Charles Trim as campaign chairman, Sue Petch as education chairman and Kay Rehder in charge of service ta patients. The complete list of newy elected officers is included elsewhere in this paper to, be clipped and saveci for anyone wishing ta volunteer their services to the Cancer Society or for those requiring particular assistance. Dr. V. Cecil Wright of London, Ontario spoke on "New Developments in Female Cancer - The Use of Carbon Dioxide Laser". Dr. Wright has b een a Medical Advisor for the Province of Ontario Canadian Cancer Society and it was with the aid of a scholarship from the Society that he studied ini England for a year. There, pap smear programmes were conducted free of charge to patients and upon his return to London, Ontario, Dr. Wright initiated programmes of the same nature. It was an ear, nose and throat specialist in the United States who began to use a laser beam to remove growths and gyneculogists began to attach a laser to the already- used cuiprascope for treat- ment as well as detection of cancer of the cervix. Women can be treated for four to five minutes witb a minimum of discomfort on an out-patient basis. Dr. Pakes bas studied the psychological' impact of serious illness on children for 15 years.
