8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, February .ý 1979 Section Two SOLINA w,', The February meeting of Solina Women's Institute was held in the community hall with the first vice president, Mrs. C. Langmaid presiding. After the opening excercises - the singing of the Institute Ode and repeating, the Mary Stewart Collect in unison - the minutes of the January meet- ing plus executive meeting were read, treausurer's report given and correspondence dealt with. Mrs. R. Fraser will be our delegate to the Officers' Conference May 1, 2 and 3. In a letter from Mrs. Diamond we were reminded of W.I. week at Erland Lee Home also Dec. 6 being Christmas there also. In connection with our Casserole Luncheon we have had several requests for recipes of our casseroles so we are going to prépare a recipe book to have available at our 1980 luncheon. The Branch Directors are lanning a night of Bowling for March 3 in Bowmanville. Mrs. J. Snowden, convenor of Education and Cultural Activities was called on for the program. She read an article explaining the origin of the vaientine. The motto - "Love makes the World Go Round" had been prepared by Mrs. S. Milîson. She included all stages of where love prevails throughout our lives. The Rol Cail - "Exchange'of Valen- tUnes". Mrs. H. Yellowlees and Mrs. G. Knox had prepared several games for us. Being divided into groups and competing made it a very enjoyable time. Some of the games were: making words pertaining to Valentines out of jumbled letters, a game with glasses some with water and some without. Gathering a list of items from newspapers. Musical Hearts, tray of missing articles., Losing my Valentine. A lively sing-song was enjoyed and a social time enjoyed in the lower hall. Thanks to Bradleys' group for a fun night. OBITUARIES FRED WIND 111 for two years, Fred Wind, aged 47, passed away in Mount 5mnai Hospital, Toronto, on Thursday, February 8th, 1979. Son of Marten and Gertrude Wind, he was born at St. Nicolaasga Friesland, Holland, and educated in Holland. A resident of R.R. 2 New- castle for 22 years, he had, previously resided in Holland. Empljoyed at Jasco (J. Anderson-Smith Co.), New- castle, he was a mechanic. He was a member of the New- castle Lions Club. Left to mourn his passing are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marten Wind, his brothers Jake, Bertus, Ben, George, sisters Margaret (Mrs. R. Cayley), and Betty (Mrs. W. Morrison). Reverend David Spivey of Newcastle, conducted funeral services on Saturday, at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home., Spring interment Bond Head Cemetery, Newcastle. Among the many floral tributes received in his Imemory were tributes from the J. Anderson Smith Co. Ltd. (Jasco) Newcastle, and the Newcastle Lions Club. Many donations to the Canadian Cancer Society were also received. MRS. AIMY FRANCES BURROWS Funeral services were held from McEachnie, Funeral Home, Pickering, Feb. 6, 1979, at 2 p.M, for Mrs. Aimy She also participated in the Second World War by knitting and sewing for the Red Cross and sending many boxes and parcels. She was a member of Ajax Senior Citizens' Club and of the Sunshine Group. Her husband, Charles Bur- rows, died in 1963, also three sons, Wilfred, Percy and Frederîck died before her. She is survived by three sons, John A. of Blackstock; Joseph of Port Perry; Russel of Picton; a sister, Mrs. Isabel Allen of Blackpool, England; 15 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
