WESLEY VILLE The weather was brisk and cool on Sunday after the slight rainfaîl of Saturday night. The service at Welcome United Church was conducted by its minister the Rev. Wm. Kennedy. The choir sang "How lovely are Thy dwellings." On Saturday evening, November llth, neighbours and former neighbours gathered to offer best wishes ta Lewis Thorndyke and his bride, the former Mandy Hewson, atthe home of Mr. and Mrs.* Murray Payne just north of the lakeshore road. Mandy was given a corsage of chrysanthemums to wear for the evening and an address was read ta bath of them by Mrs. Ken Dinner. Gifts of a full length mirror, ca rd table and chairs were presented on behaif of the friends by John Gould and Ron Dinner. Games of cards provided the entertainment followîng the presentation, with apportunity for vîsits with old friends. Lewis' sister Sharon, with husband Brian Eydey and sons of Bowmanville were present and also nephew Paul Hoskin of Waterloo. Lewis and Mandy are living in the house at the west end of hydro property which was separated from the Thorndyke farm at the time of its acquisition by hydro. On Wednesday evening, November 8th, the general meeting of the Welcome UCW was held at the church with al members of the congregation invited ta attend, begînning with a pot luck supper at,6:30. An unusual but lovely grace was sung as a round, led by the president, Mrs. Mary Kellogg. Everyone present helped themselves ta the bountiful meal, and then well satisfied, went upstairs for the meeting. A devotional period was conducted by Mrs. Kellogg and Mrs. Christine Wilson, telling of God's diverse gifts which together make up the harmony of God's world. The offering was received by Mrs. Hazel Tufford and Bernice Best. The only business transacted was the approval given for two recommandations made at the executive meeting the week previaus. Ail present were happy ta welcome Rev. Robert Bartlett and Mrs. Bartlett of Toronto, former minister and wif e. Mr. Barlett was the speaker for the evening and described his work in the finance depart- ment of the church dealing wvith bequests and annuities.
