Celebrates First Birthday heart and Thanks on your lips into His presence Offering Him your love and service. Rev. David Wainwright said he was happy to have so many join in the service of Thanksgiving and hoped it would be a time of real fellowship and blessing and welcomed the visitors to the community who attended the service. He took Isaih 55:12 as his text and said what a striking verse it was - "Ho, everyone of you who thirsts" - We get preached at, we sing hymns, we pray and we are told many things that elate us. We're asked to believe in faith especially on Sundays and in church we experience a spiritual life, but what about Monday and the rest of the week when we face the real life. We're hungry and thirsting for life, but it can only be eternal when we turn to God. Things of life are fleeting and the end is death. Jesus was perfect despite the fact he was flesh and blood. He was sensitive in all things - He knew what it was to be hungry, He knew what it was to have questioning disciples, but He took on the sins of the world when He died and rose again, and He gave us an opportunity for us to live forever. In eternity life is changed for God is gracious. A P was a definite asset to the service. Any person who would like to sing, contact Rev. Wainwright or Mrs. Wainwright. Sunday School is to begin soon. We make a living by what we get; A life by what we give. Mrs. Marion Wood represented the Cavan Manvers Parish at Synod this past week, along with four of our lay members. Sorry to hear more patients from this area are in the hospital, namely Hector Morton, Earl Morton and Charles Reynolds. We wish them speedy recoveries. Clothes are from Elaine Philips Boutique, Bethany and Henry Houzer's Men's Wear of Lindsay. This was a big success last year, so let us make it a large project this year too. Models are local area folk! We are pleased to receive word that Ivan Ellicott bas received favorable results from his major operation and trust he will have continued good health. Senior Citizens Forty-eight Golden Star Senior Citizens had a full, but pleasant day on Friday when visited and toured the Parliament Buildings as the guest of John Aikens M.P.P. They then through the courtesy of Bill Holland of Travelways toured through interesting areas of Toronto and then saw the contrast as they visited the many buildings of Black Creek Village. After a delicious dinner at the Mary John Restaurant they went to the CBC Studio and witnessed the taping of a Tommy Hunter Show. It apparently takes many instruhnents, lights and personnel to produce even one tape, but it was interesting to view this intricate modern invention of our age. Why Be a Christian? Sermon delivered by Mr. W. Graham, minister of Bethany United Church. There are many answers that might be made to such a question, but there are four reasons that we might consider. First, we should be Christians because of what Christianity means. This does not mean merely living a moral life or simply doing "good things," although these should, and will be results of being Christians. Paul puts the real meaning very simply: "For meto live is Christ," i.e. not a set of rules, or a certain code of conduct, but a close relationship with a Person - Jesus Christ. The boat ride on the canals along with the boat cruise on the Rhi e River in Germany was both scenic and historical. They visited interesting areas of Austria, Yugaslavia and admired the mountainous area of Switzerland. The neatness of the homes and the beautiful flower gardens and borders were most impressive. The only drawback was a twenty-four hour delay in their flight, and a flu bug was contactea which mae it uncomfortable for the passengers. Mrs. Belva Braithwaite was kept in Holland for a week as she was too ill to make the journey home. However, despite these unfortunate happenings, Ross IANY and Audrey said they had a wonderful trip.
