Gary Dusseldorp scored an early second period goal from the draw which was won cleanly by centre Don Farrow. Nick Van Seggelen blinked the red light for th.e Eagles' fourth goal assisted by Brian Simpson and Gary Dusseldorp - John Conboy scored for the Engles after being set up by Brian Simpson, showing excellent puck control. Gerald Brunt also assisted. Lindsay scored their first goal with . a two-man advantage. Dave Meehan scored from Brian Duncan and Scott Speer. The Lindsay power play clicked again to narrow Eagles' lead with Brian Duncan scoring fromn Dave Meehan and Scott Speer. The Mariners' power play clicked late in the period with Kevin Kelly blasting a rebound off the backboards, assisted by Ron Visser and Jerry Johnson. Bill Prentice scored for Eagles at the mid-point of the third period in a hard drive set Up by Brian Simpson., Don Farrow took, a pass from Gerald Brunt and broke d-owll the ice to beat the goalie cleanly with both burners turned on. Jerry Johnson finished the scoring by a cashing in a rebound assisted by Jack Leahman and Kevin Kelly. The Eagles defeated Wellington 10-3 in a game where the Eagles might well have scored twice as many goals, outplaying their opposition by a widemargin. Don Nicholson, from Newcastle's fine Midget team and last year's Eagle Danny, Wilcox shared the goaltending with Wilcox having the more difficuit saves. The Port Darlington Mariners have a very busy weekend opening the 1978-79 season in Beaverton Saturday night then coming home Sunday night with Port Hope Panthers in- town. The Panthers have 10 veterans in the lineup. There will be a Monday night game in Cobourg where an even stronger rivalry will be in store because Eagles' new coach Bob Spooner is a Cobourg resident. Eagles should get in shape fast with this hectic schedule. Tryouts continue Tuesday and Thursday of this week. The welcome mat is stili out to ail. B..,owmanville United's Heritage House Peewees lost to Oshawa in a 6 - 1 decision. It was the first year Bowmanville has been represented in soccer competition between out-of-town teams. The Peewees were run- ners-up in a cup competition for end-of-season play. They were in second place during competition in the Peewee league. Socrclub Helpewrd Put Ton 0on Bowmanvîlie's first year of competition in organized soccer league with out-of-town teams has been s uccessful, according to spokesman for the Bowmanville United Soccer Club. This season. the club fielded teams at the Mosquito, Peewee and Bantam levels and altogether about 50 athietes played for Bow- manvile during thie year. Most players were from Bowmanville or communities near the town. Although successful recreation league soccer teams have been operating throughout the n'unicipality for many years, the competition by the Bowman- ville United Soccer Club is similar to the competition by ail-star teams in the hockey leagues. However, organizers of the Bowmanville teams stress that their group is not intended to eliminate town- league teams. "This isn't designed to replace the recreational teams which are doing very well," said John Cook, a coach for the Peewee club.
