N4estieton United Church Annual Decoration In the United Churcb Service the Annual Memorial Service was observed on Sunday, August 20, at 2:30 p.m. SReverend Vctor Parsons, in his prayer, paid tribute to the nmemory of deceased loved ones to wbich we owe a great &.eal. We must remember that we tili fields that we did not clear, we drink from wells that we did not dig, we live in 'ni houses that we did not build and we have service in thiç church that was built by others. Mr. Parsons extendeda welcome to ail and introduced the guest minister Reverend Jerry Hofstetter of Peterbor- ough, formerly of Janetville, Yelverton Mount Horab Pastorate. Reverend Hoffstette: expressed bis pleasure -a being present, once again, on this special occasion. He introduced the ladies fron Janetville Who were responsible for the music for the day. Ruth Skuce orLranist. Helen Fry and Margaret Armstrong who sang tw( beautiful duets "In the Garden" and "Be Stili My Soul." For bis message Reverenc Hoffstetter chose "Memorials" as the theme foi his message reading Josbua 3:5-17, 4:1-24 and II Peter 1: 10-21. The twelve tribes of Israel took twelve stones froni the River Jordan and carried them to where they lodged for the night. These stones shahl be a memorial that the waters of the Jordan were cut off when the Priests carried the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord across and tbey walked on dry ground. They were ruemorials to the, Power of God, His mighty acts. Today we think of loved ones and the Memorial stones we have erected to their memory. Tbey may mean an empty chair, an empty pew, the memory of a laugh, a steadying band, a reprimand. These memorials lose their significance if we do flot tbink of what they stand for - the spirit and love of the people for wbicb tbey were erected. A sun-dial bad a museum built over it to protect it. It was useless unless exposed to the sun's rays. We too must be exposed to life and its hazards. People are storebouses fromn which to remember - recali former days but do'not linger in the past. Live today the way, our ioved ones lived each day. Share your life today showing courage and love.
