Training will be done at the Regiment's Headquarters in Oshawa, at Canadian Forces Base Bor- den, north of Toronto, and at other Canadian Forces Bases in Toronto. The Regiment also hopes to conduct a fuil-time Band training program as well, with details to follow later. "We have now bad the go-ahead to start recruiting for the 1976 Sumrmer Student Program," said Colonel Hall. 1.1 hope to have 25 enrolled for the first-year program by the first week of May, because this program has proven very popular amongst the young people of Oshawa and district ever since we started it in 1955. Many of the young men who were graduates of the course have, decided upon fuil-time careers with the Armed Forces. Many others are now offlicers and Non- Commissioned Officers in our Regiment, and- other Regi- ments and formations of the Reserves. Even if a young man or woman neyer goes any furtther in the forces, we feel, and they agree, that the training they receive for the eight-week period teaches them to do things that they would neyer learn anywhere .else," said Colonel Hall. Colonel Hall said that the training standards of the program are very tough and demanding, with a high emphasis on physîcal fitness, mental output and the de- velopment of individual initiative. "There's no use kîdding anyone who may think that they want to join, that we're ready to bandie sissies or crybabies. We expect a lot, and in return for the best individual performance a per- son can put out, we can provide a rewarding, well paid and challenging summer experience." Colonel Hall went on to say that very few candidates drop out once they get into the routine of the Regiment's summer program. "Our Sum- mer Course members -- both men and women -- soon develop a tremendous team spirit which keeps them to- gether throughout the entire training period,'" said Colonel Hall. Colonel Hall said that applicants who wish a place on the Summer Course should apply at the Armoury now, and that a news release descrîbing the program is being sent to High School guidance teachers in Oshawa, Whitby, Port Perry, Uxbridge, Pickering, Bowmanville. He urged that interested people should enroîl as soon as possible, as vacancies are Letter To Editor The Editor: May 1 thank the kind readers who have written expressing appreciation of my poems. Also, my deep gratitude to the Statesman for publishing such. a fine newspaper. Mrs. Robert Ford (Marion) 690 Cosburn Ave., Toronto, Ont. . 4t candidates will undergo an extensive music program, combined with elementary military skills, and will con- duct a concert once a week. Highlight of the eight weeks' training program will be the 1976 field concentration of Toronto area reservists at Canadian Forces Bases. Dur- ing this week the Ontario Regiment candidates will join the other members of the unit for a week's armoured train- ing. The Summer Students will be fully integrated with the armoured crews of the Ontario Regiment, and ai- though the location is not yet announced, the Oshawa unit may be going to Camp Grayling, Michigan, to join U.S. armoured units in their field training exercises. Colonel Hall also said that ail clothing and equipment as well as meals while under- going field training,,are pro- vided free of charge. Ful details of the entire program can be obtained'by iftdviduals applying in person at the Ontario Regiment Armoury, 53 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, any Tuesday or Thursday evening between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Colonel Hall again stressed that early would be given to applicants application would ensure a who showed a desire to place on this popular pro- continue on with the Ontario gram, and that preference Regiment in the fail. 7 Ohaiwa 0 o Symphony IOrchetra ROY V.
