16 The Canadian Statesman, Büwmanville, January 28, 1976 OBITUARIES JOHN WILLIAM WATSON A life member of American Federation of Musicians, John William Watson, aged 86, diedý in Memorial Hospital, Bow-' manville on Saturday, Jan- uary l7tIi, 1976 after a four month's illness. Mr. Watson was born in Edinburgh, Sqcotland, and educated at Largs, Scotland. He was married August 25th, 1956 to Olive Lou's Lucy. A resident of Bowmanille for 42 years he had also resided in Oshawa and Guelpb. He was a member of Trinity United Church. i A musician by profession, he had played at ail of tbelate R.S. McLaugblin's dances, wîth his own orchestra, and also played at the Opera House in Guelpb. He was a member of regimental bands for 14 ~years, 'and during the war played in bands marcbing the soldiers to the trains for, overseas duty. Mr. Watson was the owner of the Avalon Dance Hall in Oshawa and of Cedar Crest Park, Bowmanville. He leaves' to mourn bis passing his widow, six sons, four daugbters, 18 grandchild- ren andseven great grand- cbildren. The funeral was held on Tuesday from the Morris Funeraî'Chapel with Reve- rend Arthur Amacher, off j- ciating. Among the beautiful floral tokens received were one from Pitnev Bowes, .Toronto, The Postal Investigators, Toron- to, Members of Foreman- Assn., and Canadian General Electric, Peterborough. Inter- ment wps in St. George's Cemetery, Newcastle. BERTÉA GRACE BEST A life member of, Orono U.C.W., Bertha Grace Best, aged 86 died in Memorial Hostptai, B3owmanville, on Sun ay, January - l8th, 1976 following a lengthy illness. Daughters of the, late Wil- liam and Elizabeth Coram, she was born in- Leskard, Clarke Townsbip, and educat- ed in Leskard, and Orono schools. She was married on June 8, 1910 to Russell James Best. A resident of Orono for 66 years, she, had peviously resided in Leskard. A capable housewife and loving mother, she was also a g reat churcb worker, teaching for a number of years in the Sunday School of Orono United Cburch of wbich sbe was a member. She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter Stella (Mrs. G.W. Carson) rone. She was predeceased by two -sisters ,Mrs. J.W. Hloskin, (Jennie) Oshawa, and Mrs. A.J. Tamblyn (Laura) Orono. Reverend B.E. Long, Orono, officiated at the funeral i.er- vice held on Wednesday af the Morris Funeral Chapel. Pali-bearers were Messrs. J.W. 'Bowman, Ivison Tam- blyn, F.G. Tamblyni, Manson Patton, Ray Hoskin, and Raymond Chapman. Many floral tributes and donations were made in ber memory to the Women's Auxiliary of Memorial H&pi- tal, Bowmanville. Graham's picked up threeof the four p enalties handed out in the ast played game also Billy McArthur picked up another well deserved shutout. On Monday, Jan. 19 Gra- ham's travelled to Bewdley where they were defeated by Port Hope 4-1. It was a penaltyï filled game with 21 penalties being called.
