"This will be the first of a new series of annual regional shows exploring the artistie output of the municipality and; paying tribute to t he major Durham artists, some of whom already have national reputations," Galle ry Direct- or Joan Murray said. The exhibition, "Artists of the Durham Region" includes the work of two seul ptors, Ron Baird of Goodwood and Ed- ward Falkenberg, of Green- wood; painter and prit- maker JohniLander ofOsh- awa, and videotape artist Winston McNamee of Whitby. In addition, there will be special slide and film pro- g rams by Judithâ Currelly of Port Hop e and Bill Lîshman of Blackstock respectively. Baird's sculpture in welded and steel is identified with the Ajax post office, University of Waterloo and Expo '67. Ex- amples of Falkenberg's sculp- ture in steel appear in several of the buildings of Toronto's Cadillac Development Corpor- ation. Lander's art begins to appear in important Canadian private collections and one of Canada 's leading art dealers now represents him. Mc- Namee's videotape creations were features of the "Video- scape" exhibition staged in the new Art Gallery of Ontario at the time of its opening last Faîl. "Artists of the Durham Region" will make everyone aware of the development within the district of a source of major contemporary Can- adian work-particularly sculpture," the Gallery's dir- ector said. "The imp act of much of this work already makes itself felt far beyond the borders of the region. It also provides the kind of creative support The Robert McLaughlin Gallery must have in order to play a more complete and well-balanced role in thi s community." She added that _planning for next year's Durham exhibi- tion, tentatively titled "Wo- ,men of the Region", is now under way. From February 27th to March 23rd, a photography exhibition by the well-known Toronto photographier, John F. Phillips, founde of the former Baldwin St. Gallery of Photography, Iwill also be on view. There were over 250 entries in this particular class, so his achievement was a noteworthy one. Mike and his 1955 Chevrolet Belair are shown above. He purchased it in Chicago some time ago and has been working hard, putting it in shape for competition. It is powered by an L-88 427, 700 horsepower engine and has been evaluated at reaching a speed of '132 mph in il seconds. He has competed in Niagara, Georgetown and Cayuga races. The car, complete with its parachute brakingsystem represents an investment of $10, 000. The play is being produced by the Bowmanville Drama Workshop. It is the'story of a mistress who becomes fed up with her lover. Everything You Always Wanted to Know About.. "Loyers and Othe'- Stranp gers" is the Bowmanville Drama Workshop's 1975 pro- duction of five one-act piays based on the humourous side of sex. The first of these plays is titled "Brenda and Jerry"I starring Bonnie MVorrison and Dave Schwaim. The play opens wîth Jerry trying to lure Brenda to his bachelor apart- ment with a new line that he thinks he left the gas on in his oven. Will she be taken in by this? The second play is "Ilai and Cathy" starring John Amnes- burV and Pat Marjerrison. These two try, to solve al their probiems in the confines of a bathroom, Next is the play "Johnny and Wlma' starring i-eter ,oonî and Iris HelIam. Womens Lib enters into this play as this married couple fight to deter- mine who is to be boss. The fourth couple is "Mike and Susan" starring Peter Sobil and Cathy Godfrey. Mike has the wedding jitters and wants to caîl it all off before it's too late. The fifth spot is filled by "Frank and Bea, Ricby and Joan", starring John Ames- bury, Joan 1H1ll, Rick Morrison and Pat Rundie., Mom and Dad give many and varied reasons why Richy and Joan should not end their marriage.
