Senior Basketball team played an exhibition game against Broadview Y, and -came out on the short end of the score, 52-30. The two biggest men on the Y team, Pointen 6'6"' and Shephei'd, 6'4" bagged 25 points between them. Top scorers for- B.H.S. were Frank Mohun with 7 and Bob Galiagher with 12. FLASHBACK - 10 YEARS AGO - Howard Bradley's shot appeared well on the way to earning him $20. in the Scoro attempt during Sunday's Jr. Town League action. The puck was right on target when it bit a littie patch of snow on the ice, about five feet in front, and didn't have enough momentum left to get through the opening. HOCKEY TOURNAMENT - The Pickering Minor Hockey League will host its first annual Representative Team Tournament on Saturday, Feb. lst and Sunday, Feb. 2. Atom to Juvenile teams will be competing from Agincourt, Bowmanville, West 1H11l, Weston, and Holy Redeemer. All the players in the P.M.H.L. teams have been selected from their respective house league teams', and this is their lst good opportunity to play against boys from other leagues. In addition to these games, there will be an exhibition game between a P.M.H.L. Tyke team (boys 8 years old) against a team from Blessed Trinity in Toronto. All players will receive a momento for participating in this tournament and there will be trophies for the winning teams. CFTO-TV has been contacted, and there is a good possibility that there will be some T.V. coverage. In addition, former N.H.L. players, and scout for the Chicago Black Hawks, Ken Wills, will also be there during the activities. First game goes 8 a.m. Saturday. There will also be a dance at the Arena on Saturday night, February lst, and we are tloping that many parents and-friends from the other clubs will be there. HUNTING LICENCE - Examinations will be held on Feb. 5 - Peterborough, Feb. 12 - Osh- awa, Feb. 19 - Lindsay, from 6 - 9 p.m. Feb. 22 - Cobourg, and Feb'. 26 - Orono, from 3 - 6 p.m. The examinations are by appointment only, and should be on application forms, W.M.006, available from the'offices of the Ministry of Natural Resources and ail hunter safety course instructors. Applications should be mailed to District Manager, Ministry of Natural Resources, 322 Kent St. W., Lindsay. Persons under 16' now require a permit under the Criminal Code of Canada to lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition. Permits may be obtained from local police or 'O.P.P. offices. JUDO TOURNAMENT - the 1975 South Eastern Ontario Regional Judo Championships for junior and youth, will be held at General Vanier Collegi- ate, Oshawa, Sunday, Feb. 9. Age groups, both male and female, for juniors 14 and under, youth 15 -17. About 200 enitries are expected from Bancroft, Brockville and Ajax areas, with thie majority of entrants from the Durham Region. Involving over 43 weight, categories, this will be a double elimination event. Weigh-in will be at 10:30 a.m-. Tournament chairman is James Walker, Oshawa. Bowmnvile Sports Midgets Ousted by Penetang in First Game of Silver Stick Tourney Bowmanville'Sports Major Midgets were dlefeated in Sarnia at the Silver Stick Tournament-in their first game by a strong Penetang team. Penetang then went on to win the championshîp. The game was close and entertaining throughout. At the end of the first period, the score was tied 2-2. Penetang took a 4-3 lead at the end of the second. In the third, Bowmanville was the Istronger team but could not get the puck into the net. Deflections were going wide or hitting the post. In this period, Penetang scored their third power play goal to take a 5-3 lead. Bowmanville came back a few seconds later to make the score 5-4. Their bid to tie the score with, six attackers was unsuccessful. So the final score was 5-4. Although Bowmanville did not win tghe game, they played well enough to do so. It was unfortunate that these two teams did not meet in the championship game as the other four teams (Leamîng- ton,, Garson, Prescott, and Toledo Ohio) in theý Midget A series were much weaker. Penetang playing rather poor- ly on Sunoay defeated Garson 5-2 for the championship. Scoring for Bowmanville were Gerald Brunt, Ted Puk, Kirk-Kemp, and Terry Sargin- son. Brian Simpson played a strong game setting Up three goals. Other assists went to' Brunt, Nick Van Seggelen and John Cornish. Scoring for Penetang was Lacroix (2), Duquette (2) and Pilon. Lenny Chappeil played well in the nets for Bowmanville. Wednesday, Jan. 29th, at 7:00 p.m., Boxvmanville play host to Toronto Blues and on Sat.. Mary Brown's Toros Win Over Oshawa Red Wings At Young Cani On Saturday, Jan. 25,Mary Brown's Novice Toros played host t<o the Oshawa Red Wings and upset the Wings by a score of 2-1 in overtime. During, the first period each club showed lots o f end to end rushes but were unable to score as the two teams showed excellent goaltending and fine defensive plays. In the second period, the Toros pressed bard and held most of the play in the Red Wings' end of the rink. The first goal was scored at 4:56 of the second period by detense- man Danny Smegal who let a slap shot go from inside the Toros' blue line. The Toros came right back a minute 26 seconds later when Scott Heard carried the puck fromn the Toros end and over the Red Wings' blue line, and let a shot go that was kicked out by their goaltender, only Bobby Canfield grabbed the rebound and flipped it up and over the sprawling goalie. aumda To urn ey The third period was -al Toros as they continued to Sress even harder for victory ut the Red Wings six-year old goaltender (Sean Wiliams) was just unhelievable as he made some terrifie savesand forced the game into over- time. The Toros outshot the Red Wings in each perîod 5-4, 11-4, 11-3. ' , In the overtirne sudden death period, the Toros played like real pros. as they contin- ued to pass, check, and outhustie their opponents. The Red Wings got the, puck out and over centre ice only'once and that was when they shot it out of their end in sheer frustration. The winning goal was scor- ed at 8:23 by Ray Cummings as he let go a blistering slap shot from 50 feet out, catchîng the far lef t hand side of the net. The Tomos outshot the Wings 8-0 in overtime play. Ray Cummings won the M.V. award for the Toros and Danrny Smegal won it for the Oshawa Red Wings.
