Frank's Major Peewees came out on top again, starting with a league game in Bay Ridges on, Thursday against t e top team in the lakeshore league. In a very tight, checking game throug hout, Rick Simpson scored unassisted in the sec- ond period for Toros' only goal. Kyle Shore scored for Bay Ridges in the third ending the game at a 1-1 tie. Making many fine saves in the nets for Bowmanville was Paul La- vigne. Travelling to Delhi on Fri- day to la in the "Tobacco Town"hockey tournament we opened up against Napanee on Friday night. in a scoreless two perîods of hockey, Bow- manville outplayed the oppos- ition and outshot them 13-2. One of the Napanee shots was a penalty shot which Mark Shackelton handled perfectly. Napanee came back with two goals in the third period. Tournament at Delhi Frank's got their only goal with six attackers on the ice with only 24 seconds remain- ing on a pass from Rick Simpson to, Brent Clemens who droveta hard shot, gettîng the score. Final was Napanee 2, Bowmanville 1. Playîng Milton on Sat. morning Rick Simpson opened the sconing with assists to Chuck Welsh and Kevîn Noble. Milton came right back and tied the score at 1-1. We came out and played inspired hockey in the first and opened the scormg on a fine passing play with Rick Eagles Score Decisive Win Over Port The Red Eagie Junior C's chalked up a big win on Sunday night here when they piled on the coal and came up with a 5-2 victory over Port Perry Flamingos. Rory Gibbs and Doug Wood played a stellar role in the game, Gibbs scoring two goals and assisting on a third, whiie Wood assisted on four of the five counters for the Eagles. Body Knox, Don Smith and Mike Smith scoredathe other goals, with Gibbs and Wood assisting on Boyd Knox's goal, Perry Flamingos Glenn Rice and AI Emard battle all the way with many helping on Don Smith's and missed scoring chances by Knox and Wood lending a hand both teams, and plenty of on Mike Smith's. action. Sports Major Midgets Finish Second in Lakeshore Standing With a win and a loss in weekend games, Bowmanville Sports finish the season, two points out of first place. Ajax were the league champions. Bowmanville defeated Ajax 11-3, Sat., Jan. 18th, to come within two points of the leaders. This set up an opportunity for Bowmanville to end in first place but this was not to be as they lost to a fired up Lindsay team on Sun., Jan. l9th. Ajax's ast game of the season was in Bowman- ville on Saturday. Ajax and Bowmanville both ended the season with just four losses out of 22 games. However, Ajax had no tie games where as Bowmanville had two. In the game on Saturday, the play was fairly even and Ajax, oddly enough, out shot Bowmanville 39-32 but the difference was in the goal keeping. Lenny Chappell was sharp in the nets for Bowman- ville and allowed only three goals. Ajax was weak in goal as. eleven pucks entered the net. Ajax also tired in the third period and Bowmanville took advantage of this by scoring six unanswered goals. Ted Puk was the goalie's biggest enemy as hesscored five goals and assisted on another. Gerald Brunt also had a good game as he scored once and set up four more. Tenry Sanginson and Rick Scott scored a goal and added two assists each. In the second period, Mark- ham really tested goaltender Wayne Bragg but Wayne came up with some excellent saves to help protect the Toros' lead. In the final period, the Toros scored twice more, once on a three way combination with Chuck Nash and Ray Cum- mings setting up teammate Bobby Canfield. The fourth goal was scored by Jay Sweet Preston's Major Atoms Win 1 Tie i The Preston the Mover Major Atoms played three league games last week, winning one, tying one and losing one. On Wednesday, the Toros travelled to Bay Ridges and defeated the home town club 3-0in a very well played game. There was no scoring until the middle period when John Klompmaker found the range assisted by Steve Cary and Darcy Cummings. Brian Ruddyscored a goal, assisted by is right-wnger Barry Cullen. In the final period, Ruddy scored his second goal, the assists going to Cummings and Cary. Ken Woodard was in goal for Bowmanville and came up with several key saves to earn a well deserved shut-out, the fourth time Bowmanville has held the Bay Ridges club scoreless. On Saturday, Bowmanville was host to Markham and the teams skated to a 1-1 draw. Before the final buzzer, the visitors went all out to break their shut out as they continued to pepper George Kennett but George proved to be too quick and, sharp as he stopped every- thing that was fired at him. The next day the Toros travelled to Ajax for the first encounter with this team and were able to return with a well earned 3-2 win. Once again George Kennett and Wayne Bragg proved to be excellent goaltenders as they were cailed upon to make some brilliant saves. Ajax opened the scoring in the first period at 6:45 only to have Scott Masters tie the score 1-1 two minutes later with assists going to Scott Heard. In the second period, Ajax drew first blood again as they scored af ter 44 seconds of play The Toros once again tied the score at 2-2 while Ajax were a man short. In the final period both clubs made some great end to end, rushes but the only goal scored was by the Toros. Scott Masters got the winning goal from BobbyCanfield. Greg Smith, Mike Gall, Dane Rupa and Andrew Smith played one of their best games for the ,Toros. Next game is in Bowman- ville at 12 noon.
