Winners were: the Langman Shield to the Sr. Girl's Champion - Margaret Ovens; J. A. Smith Shield to the Sr. Bo's Champion - James Creamer; Junior Girl 's Championship Medal - Jean Thoms; Junior Boy's Medal - Jack Allin. FLASHBACK - 10 Years Ago - Members of the girl's Stingrays hockey team are Margaret Goyne, Mary Tighe, Karen Davis, Jean Hooey, Marilyn Robinson, Ann Reader, Joanne Wood- ward, Jennifer Purdy and Daisy Reader. The Mustang team members are Donna Goodwin, Kay Hutton, Rosemary Ormiston, Susan Mar- tyn, Sherryl Davis, Laurie Slemon, Maureen Tighe, Frances Henning and Rhonda Johnson. IT HAS BEEN DRAWN - to our attention that the Solina Soccer team has won the championship for nine consecutive years. While we do nothave statistics on player s etc., we imagine this has to be some kind of a record in an yleague. To date we have not heard of any p ans to honor these champions. THE SLAMMERS- of Bowmanville Goodyear plant house league golf team unseated the Hookers team, and won the league champion- ship. Members were Jim Coyle, Don Osborne, Jiggs Cowling, Ralph McIntyre and AI Brown. Hooker's - Dave King, Dave Thompson, Russ Foster, Stu Caunce and John Vogel. Duffers - Art Cann, Norm Webb, Bruce Haick, Ed Bow- ler and Walter Goode. Consolation winners - Slicers - Tom Gatchell, Emmerson Ellis, Lind- say Terreau, Harry Cuff and Emilio. Most val- uable player was Jim Coyle. THE GREY CUP BONSPIEL - will be held at Bowmanville Country Club, on Saturday, Nov. 30, and Jim Youngman reports that theice is in and it's that time of year to think about your curling membership. This year's officers at the club are Pres. George Stephen, Annabelle Rickard ladies' president, Paul Kowal mixed curling president, and Vi Taylor business girls' president. THE PINS - were really falling at Liberty Bowl last week with two more big 900 games. Bob Burley, bowling in the Young Adult League hit 950, with games of 345-325-280, to set a new record for the season. Roger Davies bowling in the Men's Major set the season high for the lea- gue curls every Thursday morning at 10 at theg. Oshawa Curling Club. PLAN NOW - to attend OPEN HOUSE Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23-24 at the Old Orchard Park Ski Centre, on Hwy. 7 east, 2 miles east of Peterborough north one mile on old Norwood Road. Saturday night there will be a dance, everyone is welcome. No charge. Bob Burrows is the manager and invites everyone to come out sometime during the two days of open house, and for the dance. MEMBERS - Of the Senior Citizen's Curling League, recently competed in the Big Brother Spiel, held at the Oshawa Curling Club. COURTICE COUGARS - Sr. Girl's basketball team were defeated 36-35 by G. L. Roberts in the L.O.S.S.A. circuit on Wednesday of last week. In the Junior game the Cougars were defeated 16-15 by G. L. COURTICE COUGARS - Football team were eliminated at Civic Fields, Oshawa, last week, in the LOSSA Eastern Div. 7-0, by Oshawa Catholic Saints. Big guns for the Cougars were Ron Jukic and John Conboy. The Cougars were hampered by playing conditions. A fast run- ning team, they were slowed down by a very wet field. On Sunda night, there was plenty of action as Lindsay Muskies downed Bowmanville Jr. C. Red Eagles in a i gh-scoring game 9-6. Two Courtice Athletes Receive Kinsmen Scholarships Last week, there were special scholarship awards for two members of the Courtice Secondary School advanced Physical Education team who have made a considerable contribution not only to their own school but to others in the area. Bowmanville Kinsmen, in recognition of their efforts, awarded each a $25 scholarship. Taking part in the presentation were, from left to right, C.S.S. Principal James E. Speers, the two winners, Tom Lyzba and John Sobil, Kinsmen President Harvey Webster and Dieter Wunderlich, Head of, the C.S.S. Phys. Ed. Dept. Knapp's Banas Register Their 1Oth Win of Season by Beating Oshawa - Markham The Major Bantams have made their presence felt in the O.M.H.A. LAKESHORE LEAGUE so far this season as they carry a ten win no loss record to lead the league. This years league consists of five "AA" teams and two "A" teams, whi, are Bowman- ville and Markham. Their for and against figures are also very impressive as they have scored 60 times and only allowed the opposition 17 goals in the 10 games to date. In the past week, Knapp's played two games, defeating Oshawa at their home rink by a score of 5-2 and edging Markham 5-4 at the Bowman- ville arena. Oshawa put up a better battle in their home rink than they did in Bowman- ville the previous Saturday when they got bombed 8-1. Oshawa got on the scoreboard first with Steve Paige scoring at the six minute mark of the first period. Brad Godfrey evened up the score late in the period with Gary Dusseldorp setting him up. Jeff Wilson scored the lone goal in the second period to give Oshawa a 2-1 lead going into the third period. Bowmanville came out fly- ing in the third period, scoring four unanswered goals to gain the victory. Brent Badour started things rolling by blasting a 30 footer from the point after taking a corner pass-out from Gary Dussel- dorp. Godfrey scored his second goal of the game with Rick Bain and Ed Visser assisting. Dean Rutherford combined with Pete Nemisz for one of the prettiest goals of the season to clinch the game for Bowmanville. Oshawa pulled their goalie in the last minute of play only to have the strate gy backfire as AI Brunt picked up the loose puck and fired into the empty net. On Saturday, Bowmanville hosted Markham and came up with a 5-4 win in a hard fought game. Bowmanville took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Brad Godfrey and Tim Buttonshaw, Gary Dusseldorp earned an assist. Godfrey put Bowmanville ahead 3-0 early in the second period, scoring unassisted as Bowmanville was a man short. Markham closed the gap by adding two quick goals with Rob Adams and Marty Bauer scoring on plays from close in. Godfrey completed his bat trick mid-way through the period on a nice play set up by his hard working winger Ed Visser. Dean Rutherford made it 5-2 late in the period, while killing a penalty, taking a pass from Gary Dusseldorp. in the third period, Mark- ham were hungry for a victory and dominated play in the early stages as they scored two quick goals 30 seconds apart to draw within one goal. Bowmanville defensive core tightened up at this point and held on for the win. Brett Murphy came up with a couple of fine saves late in the period as Markham pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Bownianville will nost Lind- say tonight at seven o'clock in the Bowmanville Arena. Hustling Frank's Peewees Have 2 Wins and i Loss On Vonday, Nov. 4, W. Frank's Peewees travelléd to Oshawa for a high-scoring contest at Children's Arena. Steve Beirnes opened the scoring for Oshawa on a deflection with the game only 20 seconds old. Bowmanville came back on a good passin play on a goal by Chuck Welsh, assisted by Rick Simp- son and Randy MacDonald. Oshawa got 2 more goals, ending the period at 3-1 for the homesters. At the midway mark of the second, Toros closed the gap on a goal by Brent Clemens, assisted by Kevin Noble. One minute later, Oshawa.scored on a breakaway. The next two goals also went to Oshawa ending the second a 6-2 After the break, Oshawa scored again but a "never give up attitude" by the Toros squad coming back with a goal was Dale Broome assisted b Carl Chambers. Playing well and getting his second goal of the night was Brent Clemens set up by Randy MacDonald. Ending the scoring was Terry Riggers assisted by Rob DeBoo. Final 7-5 Oshawa. Sharing the nets for Toros was Mark Shackelton and Paul Lavigne. Playing the second game in as many nights with Ajax being the opposition at Ajax W. Frank's opended the scor- ing with a new player, Paul Des Roches, on his firs trip on the ice assisted by Carl Chambers. Ajax tied the game scoring early in the second. Three minutes later Darrell Goudey got the winnin goal on a pass from Bruce Schouten. Second period ended Toros ahead 2-1. In the third W. Frank's boys looked like the team that went to the Ontario Final last year with four unanswered goals at the halfway mark Rick Simp- son scored, assisted by Brent Clemens. Three minutes later Steve Brown scored assisted by Darrell Goudey and Kevin Noble. Less than a minute later, Chuck Welsh scored assisted by Brent Clemens and Rick Simpson. Just 40 seconds later Toros ended the scoring on a goal from Brent Clemens assists going to Chuck Welsh and Rick Simp- son. Going all the way in net and playing well was Mark Shackelton. Bowmanville win- ning 6-1. On Sat. afternoon home ice W. Frank's team played an exhibition contest on a return match against Port Perry. Port Perry winning the first game 5-4 but this time our boys came out flying. Opening the scoring was Rick Simpson assisted by Kevin Noble. Half a minute later Brent Clemens scored assisted by Rick Simp- son. Chuck Welsh getting an unassisted "picture" goal. Port Perry got an unassisted goal stealing the puck from behind Toros net and slipoing it in the corner. Stan Green- ham set up the next goal with Chuck Welsh making no mistake on a high drive to the corner. Ending the period at Toros 4-1. In the next period, each team scored with Toros scor- ing first from Rick Simpson assisted by Chuck Welsh. After the break Rick Simpson, playing his best to date, scored his third and fourth goals assisted by Welsh and Clemens and Welsh from Greenham. Gettine the final goal for Bowmanville, giving Chuck Welsh the bat trick, assists going to Clemens and Simpson. Port Perry ended the scoring making it W. Frank's 8, Port Perry 3. Sharing the goal tending and playing well were Paul Lav- igne and Mark Shackelton. With revenge in mind Pee- wees next home game will be Sat. at 3 with Oshawa being the opposition.
