Commissioners' Honorariums Durham region council has decided to pay honorariums to the chairman and members of the regional Board of Police Commissioners. Chairman Judge J. P. Kelly will get $6,000 per year and members Thomas Jermyn and Lorne Graham $5,000 per year. Councillor Ivan Hobbs, one of the council members on the board, said the board bas had 30 meetings in the past month some of which lasted from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. He added that members of the boards of other regional municipalities earn similar honorariums. Normal subsidies from the province cover about 50 per cent of road costs, but a letter from the Minister of Trans portation and Communica- tions presented to the regional finance committee says this year's grant will be raised to 58 per cent if formal applica- tion is made. The committee promptly decided to recommend to council that the offer be accepted with gratitude, and formal application be made as soon as possible Finance Committee Chair- man George Ashe said he will suggest to council that the money be used to reduce the' one million dollars in deferred payments in the works depart- ment budget.
