On Decem ber 6th the Wo- men's Instîtute held their Christmas Meeting followed by a turkey dinner at Trinity Sunday Sehool. Our President, Mrs. Downey,, welcomed everyone, 29 were in atten- dance,,and she opened the meeting with "0 Canada", The Ode and Colleet, minutes were read and approvedand the treasurer's statement giv- en. Letters were readand the roll eall was answered with Christmas wishes. A discus- sion followed as to when the course "Baked in a Ii(ie" would he and it wýas eiddi would be better to leave it until after the new year., Mrs. Patfield gave-he'r report on the Convention held in Toronto in Nov. In Mrs. Hermanson's address she said, we shouldn't live al in the past nor ail in the future, but live one's best in the present. To live and do nothing can make one rust out instead of wear out. Mrs. Lewis speaking on family consum- er's affairs said that when we buy sugared cereals we pay 90 cents a lb. for the sugar. One speaker said in the near future there would be a rose named "Adelaide Hoodless" founder of WlI. in 1897. Hon. Tom Stewart, Minister of Agricul- ture gave a short talk followed by Rev. Stewart from Kitch- ener who spoke on the quality of life. Have a good deep self respect. Atmosphere can be poluted as welI as water !ýhe said. Several skits were put on solos anid a Sweet Adeline quartette entertained at dif- -ferent sessions. After singing a Christmas hymn Mrs. T. Buttery gave the motto, -what wouid Christmas be like without any advertising", she said she couldn't imagine it, and said we have had what you could cati a way of communication since before the birth of Christ. Did not the prophets bave a vision that, unto them wouid be born a babe, a Saviour, and did not Angels proclaim the birth of Christ, and werenot the Wise men led by a star? Some of us remember hefore radio and television, news was passed by word of mouth, then by telephone, news travelled siower and so did the people, "Christmas is more, yes Christmas is more, Christmas is something more than gifts found in stores". Mrs. S. Buttery gave two splendid readings on Christ- mas bj Ethel Chapman and we ail enjoyed several duets by Mrs. C. Bell and Mrs. E. Twist accompanied by Mrs. Bragg. "Holiday customs around the Worid" was given by several members. Each one read the customs at Christmas time of one country, they were England, Mexico, France, Hoiiand, Sweden, Gerrnany, Austria, Italy and Palestine. Hymns were interspersed be- tween readîngs. Mrs. Stapleton and Mrs. J. Buttery conducted cnnteists on Christmas carols, songs, and things pertaining to Christ- mas. Prizes were given. A dehcious - turkey supper with ail the trimmings and Christmas pudding was ser- ved us hy Unit 11, with Mrs. Thompson, leader. The tables were prettily decorated and candles burning added much to our afternoon. Mrs. Twist thanked ail the ladies of the Unit for their kindness and taking time at a busy time to serve us.
