Raises $90 at Car Wash On Saturday, about 25 students from BHS Athletie Association held a car wash on the Bank of Montreal parking lot and got chilled to the bone and soaked as they soaped and washed 90 cars to raise a total of $90. Here, they are in action while out on the street, two girls with placards herded the customers into the lot. Those taking part included: President Nancy Jackman, Secretary Kathy Budai, Treasurer Judy Paterson, Sandra Knight, Cheryl Sweetman, Susan Dustan, Pat Self, Debbie Weatherall, Deb Thertell, Mary Ann Groetelaars, Donna Hilditch, Marie Brooks, Margaret Sutherland, Lorie Rutherford, Julie Vivian, Lisa Jolliffe, Pam Colmer, Susan Davey, Janet Locke, Cathy Patterson, Jane Morris, Vickie Cowle, Candy Atkinson and Alberta Weatherall. "Get Your Car Washed...Only $1.00" Debbie Thertell and Debbie Weatherall attracted considerable attention on Saturday as they lured motorists into the Girls Athletic Association Car Wash at the Bank of Montreal parking lot. In spite of the cold weather, the girls did a roaring business. KEN DA L Kendal Women's Institute met on Wednesday evening October lSth. at the home of Mrs. Art Low. There were ten .members and three visitors. We were honored to have the district president, Mrs. H. Bradley of Bowmanville. The meeting was opened b the president Mrs. John 1end erson by singing the Institute Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. The Fun Fair at Solina on November 8th was discussed as to who would participate in the talent dem- onstation also provide the cookies squares or tarts. It was decided our December Meeting is to be in the form of aChristmas°dinner cated to by the Ladies Ausillary of the Girl Guides. The annual convention of the Women's Institute is at the Royal York on October ž4,25 and 26th. It was decided that the Kendal ladies would attend on Thurs- day Oct. 25th. Mrs. Bradley then brought greetings to our branch from the Wesf Durham District. In her talk she told of her trip to Banff in June, giving a day by day account of her experience at the convention. A tasty lunch was provided by Mrs. Wm. Turarisxy. The Novem- ber meeting is f0 be held atthe home of Mrs. Martin Manvers on the third Wednesday of the month. Stevens left last Wednesday to visit with their daughter and fam- ily Mr. and Mrs. George Hamilton, near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Mrs. Aiva Swarbrick of Oshawa is spending a few days this week with Miss Catharine Stewart. Kendal United Church Ann- iversary was held Sunday afternoon with Rev. -ofstetter of Janetville being the guest speaker. He also piayed a couple of numbers on the accordian and led a sing song. The guests soloist was ivîr. Daniel Foster of Peterborough whose contribution to the service was greatly appreci- ated. Mrs. L. Farrow of Starkville was the organist in the absence of Mrs. Foster. Later a social half hour was enjoyed over tea and cookies in the Sunday School Room. It was most gratifying to see such a good crowd out for the service. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Keith for supper were Mr. and Mrs. Danny Foster of Peterborough and Rev. Mr. Snelgrove, also Hazel and Julie Wilkin. Mr. and Mrs. Howard How- son of Peterborough were Sunday evening guests with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hoy. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Foster and Paul of Newcastle were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Geach. Mr. and Mrs. John McMill an of Thornhill were at their summer cottage over the weekend. Mrs. P. Jones and Mrs. Joyce Smith of Oshawa were supper guests on Thursday evening with Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott. Miss C. W. Stewart, Mrs. Garlanid Cathcart and Mrs. R. Elliott ateanid a dedmonstra tion on Macrame at the Clarke Township Museum on Wed- nesday afternoon. Thedemon stration is to continue this Wednesday. Master Timmy Bailey of Orono spent a couple of days last week with his grandpar- ents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Little. WESLEYVILLE Church service was with- drawn at Welcome United Church on Sunday morning so that the congregation might join with Garden Hill in their anniversary services. Next Sunday the annual thank offering will be held at Welcome together with the dedication of the addition to the building. Lakeshore residents have been making hospital calls this week with several of the local people in Port Hope hospital for various illnesses. Arnold Austin had surgery performed there last week but came along so well he was home again in a few days. Mrs. Percy Snell became suddenly ill a week ago and went to hospital for tests and treatment and Mrs. Arnold Thorndyke went in last Thurs-, day for rest and treatment. Mrs. Bruce Dinner is in Peterborough Hospital. also for surgery. Mesdames T. Wilson, G. Tufford, R. Best, E. Barrow- clough and Berniece Best attended the Presbyterial (Cobourg) workshop held at the Port Hope United church on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 18th. The local unit of the Welcome UCW catered at the sale held at the farm of Peter Moore on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20th. It was a great day for bot coffee for the winds blew cold. Vegetables from the gard- ens are stored in sheds or other available shelter until heavy frost forces them into warmer quarters. All but potatoes, there does not seem to be a quantity of them anywhere locally. There are few people in the immediate neighborhood have enough to last the winter. One other thing that is in shorter supply this year, is the cluster fly - that nuisance that buzzes around and falls in a cup of tea. cup of tea. Evidently their life history shows the eggs laid in clean earth, the larvae find their way into earthworms where that stage is spent, after hatching from the pupae cases the fly feeds on fruit juice and fiowers and with cold weather, gathers on buildings and crawls in every crack available to worry housekeepers for the rest of the winter. They thrive in wet weather, so the dry weeks brought one blessing. Mrs. Hector Darke spent a fwdays last week with her four sisters in Haliburton. The tip up there was beautiful but high winds had taken many of the leaves by the time they arrived at their destination. Mrs. Clarence Nichols and sister Grace Anderson spent the weekend at their home in Westmeath.
