In. spite of the pain she had suffered for the ast several months, Mrs. Bowins had been in very good spirits and had driven her car regularly up to a short time prior to her death. She had attended Pont ypool United Church faithfully and had been quite helpful in the work of the U C.W. To her family, Wilma (Mrs. Hyland), Roy and Betty (Mrs. McKee) we entend our sincere sympath and also to her many grand- children and to other.surviv- ing relatives. We also offer the sympathy of our community to the family of the late Mrs. George Kerr of Yelverton. Mrs. Kerr passed away on Saturday after a lingering illness. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bradley on Sunday were Mrs. Pearl Stockdale and Mrs. Tisha Boynton of Orillia. We~are sorry to report that Orville Challice is a patient in Peterborough Civic Hospital. We all wish you a speedy recovery, Orville. Mrs. Ray Bailey and infant son returned home from hospital recently. Garnet Armstrong is again a patient in Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay. We hope, Garnet, that you will soon be feeling much better. Sgt. Cameron and Mrs. Rowan, and family of Ottawa were weekend visitors with the C. Fallis family. Harry VanWieringen is hunting this week in the Iroquois Falls district. Several from this area attended a presentation for Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gilbank and family in Yelverton on Sat. eve. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Fisk treated their English guests to a tour of the Niagara district on Thursday and Friday. On Sunday, Mrs. Pickin, heila and Karen flew home to Manchester, England. Mr. and Mrs. John VanWier- ingen spent the weekend in the Lake Huron region. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kirk recently enjoyed a motor trip to North Bay and points west. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Strong returned home by air on Thursday after a week spent with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Strong and son in Coquitlam B.C. They reported a most enjoyable trip with no ill effects from their first flight. While there, they also visited with their daughter, Gail, who lives in Burnaby. Holy Communion and Bapt- ism were held in Ballyduff Presbyterian Church on Sun- day with Mr. Swann officia- ting. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. David McQuade was baptized during the service. Mrs. Gordon Strong was a guest at the Brown-Foster wedding in St. James Angli- can Church, Pete'borough, on Saturday. The October meeting was held on Wednesday evening, October 3rd, at the home of Mrs. Verena Sanderson of Janetville with an attendance of sixteen, including three visitors from Manchester, England. Before the meeting, took place, Mrs. Sanderson showed us her collection of buttons and anitques. She bas buttons from all over the world and everyone was fascinated with the thousands of buttons and also the beautiful antiques. Mrs. Fisk opened the meet- ing with a reading "Business of Friendship". Mrs. Y. Fallis was in charge of the Devotion- al. She opened with a Bible reading and a Thanksgiving poem entitled "Thanks". The meditation was read by Mrs. G. Fallis. We sang "Count Your Blessings" and closed with prayer. Correspondence was dealt with. We received a letter from Lee Hyun Woo, our foster child in Korea, and this was passed around for each mem ber to see. Thank you notes were read from the two girls we helped sponsor at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac this sum- mer. We are asked to send an individual letter to Mr. Will- iam.Davis, Premier of Ontario at Queen's Park, Toronto, protesting Sunday retail sell- ing in Ontario. Each member s asked to write individually, as this will have more effect that one letter from the U.CW. A report on the Bay of Quinte Conference U.C.W. School held at Camp Quin-Mo- Lac in September was read by Mrs. Fisk We are asked to save the Canada Packers labels, as we plan to get a coffee maker, if we can save sufficient labels. Moved by Mrs. Lethangue and seconded by Mrs. Skuee that we sent a donation to the M. & S. Fund. The treasurer's report was read by Mrs. Y. Falls, and a report was given on the wedding anniversary we cat- ered to last month. The men plan on putting a point down and getting the water piped into the Church. They will be starting next week. It is hoped that the washrooms will be installed later on. The Morning U.C.W. will be held on Wednesday, October 10th at 10 o'clock at the Church and all the young women in the community are welcome W attend. Mrs. Finney will be demonstrating Yoga. We have been asked to cater to a wedding on Saturday, October 20th. Our Thankoffering Service will be held on Sunday, October 28th at 11 a.m. The Rev.
