Weighing out the cost of daycare, Jenna opted to try to work from home and take care of the children as well. When her thriving online business dried up, she suddenly found herself out of work. While Ramone commutes to Hamilton each day, his salary alone is just barely enough to keep food on the table. As Christmas looms, the harsh reality is that there isn`t much extra to provide gifts or a celebration for the family. Through your support of the KSM Christmas Wonders program, we are able to come alongside families like this to provide food and presents for the holidays. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to KSM. For Oakville's Linbrook School, the adage out with the old and in with the new has a familiar ring. Founded by Head of School Amber Way and her husband, Dave Way, the local not-for-profit, independent day school for boys in JKGrade 8 opened its doors in September on the site of the former Linbrook Public School at 1079 Linbrook Rd. The former public school closed in 2010 after serving the community for 78 years. The new Linbrook school building has been rebuilt with a "new modern flare," Amber Way said, noting the renovations preserved the history of the previous school. "We felt that keeping the name Linbrook was important to the history of the building. We feel strongly for this community and its history, so we wanted to keep the heritage name," said Way. A grand opening was held to welcome parents and students at the start of the new school year. "Parents said we have a real sense of community and that's what they love about the school. That's really important to me because that's what we wanted," said Way. "It's great that we have a beautiful building and a great site, but it's all about the people. We have happy boys and happy parents." She noted Linbrook contains new floors, walls and ceilings, had $250,000 worth of asbestos removed and added more than $500,000 in technological upgrades, including new laptops and iPads. "We stripped the classrooms down to nothing. Everything you see in the building, other than the concrete walls, is new, except the stage. We kept the stage in the gym, but we did put down a new floor and added new basketball nets as well. It's quite impressive," said Way. "In one of the classrooms, we converted it to two offices and a reception area. It is entirely different than it was in the past." The school currently has 19 staff members, 10 classrooms and 65 students -- with more enrolling shortly -- and has a capacity for 180 boys, Way noted. "We hired a very experienced staff to work with the programs and the boys. They've been see Linbrook on p.16
