www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, October 23, 2014 | 20 Ward 3 Local/Regional by Michael Gregory Oakville Beaver Staff The race in Ward 3 has been the busiest of the campaign with 10 candidates and much of the discussion focused on the downtown core. The Town council seat is being contested by Mike Cunningham, Tim Danter, Bob Ferguson, Nick Hutchins, Scott McColeman, Ron Newman, Andrew Pask and Scott Weller. The race for Town and Regional council seat is between Dave Gittings and Ben Palmer. Palmer has been in residential and commercial real estate for two decades and counts the downtown redesign as a reason he's running. "We have to get it right or we can do a lot of damage and waste a lot of money," he said. Palmer said he's opposed to surface parking lots that are a "terrible use of land" and recommends design competitions to seek new ideas. Gittings served on Town Council this past term and stepped in to run at the regional level after Keith Bird's retirement. "Ward 3 deserves an experienced, proven and engaged representative," Gittings said. Gittings counts memorable work in his first council term, as preventing the sale of the Gairloch Gardens home, and the designation of the Downtown Heritage Conservation District. see Ward 3 on p.34 November 7th, 2014 www.theocf.org plements and Herbs! of Vitamins, Sup n o i ct le se e g We carry a lar 0 2 Everything with Rewards Program % OF F COLD D&F FLU REE F DELIVERY * exceptions apply Prepare for the Walker's PICKS TOP Season! www.walkersvitamins.com ( South of the QEW, East of Trafalgar ) 511 Maple Grove Drive, Unit #11 Oakville (289) 837-3591 PENWOOD PENWOODFURNITURE.COM HAND-CRAFTED FURNITURE 40% OFF TABLES OFF THE BED WITH THE PURCHASE OF THE 5 PC.
