Alleged street racing ended in a horrific crash that claimed the life of an unborn child Monday night at Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street. A 2 1-year-old Mississauga woman, who was six months pregnant, lost her unborn baby despite an emergency cesarean performed just after the accident at Credit Valley Hospital. Peel Regional Police were still investigating a deadly week end crash caused by illegal street racing at Bumhamthorpe Road and Ponytrail Drive when they were called to Monday night's accident -- yet another suspect ed street racing disaster that sent four people, including the expec tant mom and an Oakville teen, to hospital., Police said the pregnant woman was a passenger in a Ford Explorer being driven by a 36year-old Mississauga man. Collision investigators said the SUV was turning at the intersec tion of Dundas St. and Winston Churchill Boulevard when it was struck by a Pontiac Firebird travel ling at high speed. The SUV rotated before ram ming a light standard and then landing on top of the Firebird. Firefighters had to cut both the woman and the driver of the SUV, as well as the driver of the Firebird, a 16-year-old Oakville youth, and his 17-year-old passen ger, out of their mangled vehicles. The Oakville teen is listed in serious condition at Toronto's Sunny brook hospital. The passen ger in the Firebird received minor injuries. The SUV's driver and his female passenger are listed in sta ble condition. Const. Ian Woodworth of Peel Regional Police Service's Major Collision Bureau said charges are pending against the driver of the Firebird, who witnesses say was racing with a late model, silver Chrysler Intrepid which managed to speed through the intersection unscathed. "From what we've been told, that driver was going just as fast or faster as he was ahead of the Firebird," Woodworth said. "We're still looking for that car." The ugly collision came just two days after a deadly street race in east end Mississauga that killed two men and left another clinging to life. Anyone with information on either accident is asked to call Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800222-8477.
