Empty Bowls sets up for 2014 Seventeen uniquely, hand-painted bowls with a child's touch will be unveiled Tuesday (Sept. 30) for the launch of Home Suite Hope's (HSH) eighth annual Empty Bowls. HSH's signature event emulates a soup kitchen where 15 local chefs bring their homemade soups to taste. Those who attend, choose a hand-painted bowl, taste from a variety of gourmet soups, and take the bowl home as "a reminder of the renewed hope they have given to Halton's homeless," stated a press release. Tuesday's kickoff, which will be held at RBC's 279 Lakeshore Rd. E. branch in Oakville, will feature bowls painted by children from HSH's programs and Kerr Street Ministries. Painting parties, ahead of the event, are also held at Crack Pot Studio where participants purchase a bowl for $15 and donate it to Empty Bowls. All proceeds from the painting parties and event ticket sales go towards housing, education and training for single-parent families facing homelessness in the community. Empty Bowls is set for Sunday, Oct. 19 at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School, 1080 Linbrook Rd., from noon-3 p.m. Tickets cost $60 for adults and $30 for children aged five to 12.
