HHS marks Agricultural Week with Food Expos in hospitals Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is celebrating Ontario Agricultural Week (Oct. 6-12) by hosting Fall Food Expos at each of its three hospitals. "Our first local food expo, held in June of this year, was a huge success. We had more than 500 people attend. In fact, it was such a success, that HHS was selected as the winner of the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers' First Local Food Week Competition for its food expo and the related promotional activities," Marianne Katusin, HHS manager of Operational Readiness -- Food Services, said in a press release. The expos will be held: · Monday (Sept. 29) -- Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital auditorium, 327 Reynolds St., 10 a.m.-noon; · Tuesday, Oct. 7 -- Georgetown Hospital activity room, 1 Princess Dr., Georgetown, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; · Wednesday, Oct. 8 -- Milton District Hospital classroom, 7030 Derry Rd., Milton, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. In January, HHS was awarded funding from the Ontario Greenbelt Fund for a project called Good For You, Locally Grown aimed at getting more local food into hospital kitchens. "The Greenbelt Fund provides us with the opportunity to build local networks, support Ontario producers and host food expos, as we develop a local food policy for HHS, and help lead the way for other healthcare facilities in Ontario," Katusin said in the release. "Many of our partners such as the Greenbelt Fund, Gordon Food Service and Signature Culinary Solutions as well as our local food growers from across Halton including Andrews Scenic Acres, Springridge Farm and Stonehaven Farm will be at these expos. "We have some new manufacturers and growers coming out as well. What a great week to learn about the local food chain in Ontario and see how we are incorporating local foods into our hospital menus." 11 | Friday, September 26, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com CONCRETE Summer may be over, but the fun is continuing this weekend in Oakville. · Fire Prevention Week Kickoff -- The 15th annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff event is Saturday (Sept.) 27 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Oakville Fire training campus, 1144 South Service Rd.
