Man charged for alleged 180km/h speed on QEW A 25-year-old man is facing charges after fleeing from an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer who caught him allegedly driving faster than 180 km/h on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) in Oakville. Police said the incident occurred near Third Line when an officer with the Highway Safety Division's Burlington detachment clocked a white Volvo in the westbound lanes well over the posted 100 km/h speed limit Tuesday after 2 a.m. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted a routine traffic stop but the "vehicle failed to stop for police and the officer continued to pursue the Volvo." Police said the Volvo then exited the highway onto Oakville roads before the officer discontinued the pursuit due to concern for public safety. The officer then watched as the vehicle lost control and went into a ditch. Daniel Rene Marton of Caledon was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from police. The accused driver's licence was suspended and the Volvo was impounded, both for seven days.
