According to Shelley Frank, fundraising coordinator with the Halton branch of the Canadian Cancer Society, this year it's hoped this popular event will raise $30,000. "It's a great night to hang out with your friends, all dressed up in nice clothes and all for a good cause," said Frank. This year marks the fifth for Hope and the City. In the previous four years the fundraiser has generated more than $125,000 for research into cancers that affect women, specifically breast, ovarian, uterine and cervical. Over that time, Frank has heard plenty of positive feedback from attendants, describing Hope and the City as a "feel-good evening for everyone." Tickets cost $50 and include a chance to win the grand prize, which is dubbed the "Ultimate Girls Getaway Weekend." It includes a trip to Montebello, Que., where winners will be housed in the lap of luxury at the Fairmount Le Chateau Montebello Hotel. The Hope and the City fun runs from 7-11 p.m. at Ivy Bar & Kitchen, 3330 South Service Rd., Burlington. Hope and the City has historically been a sold-out event so Frank advises anyone prone to procrastination to break that habit or face disappointment.
