Katelynd Lepholtz started her summer break by getting a hair cut and donating her brunette locks to Wigs for Kids. The Cawthra Park Fine Arts student who will be entering Grade 11 had her almost waistlength hair cut to just above the shoulder at The Best Little Hairhouse in Oakville late Friday afternoon. Other students, and some of the teachers, are planning to make similar donations. The 15-year-old teen, moved by television programs "she's seen about children and cancer," decid ed about a year ago to donate her hair to the organization that makes wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy treatments, said her mother Sandra Lepholtz. "She's a very caring girl." She learned about Wigs for Kids from one of those television programs, said her mother. Since she was planning to donate her hair, Katelynd "could not have any treatments, such as perms and colouring," continued her mother. "The hair has to be all natural. She's taken very good care of her hair." Wigs for Kids is a not-for-profit organization providing hair replacement solutions for children affected by hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, bums and other medical conditions. The organization welcomes donations of any kind, and contin uously searches for children to assist in situations of hair loss. Its main purpose is to help children look themselves - alleviating addi tional stress due to lack of under standing among their peers. For more information, contact Wigs for Kids' Canadian affiliate.
