T Oakville residents getting ready to lace up for the 34th annual Terry Fox Run available for $20 each with all proceeds from sales going to the Terry Fox Foundation. Bronte Harbour Chiropractic Clinic and Oakville Massage and Wellness Clinic will be on hand to treat participants. Elizabeth Sheridan will pipe participants as they begin the run, while Toronto Rock cheerleaders will cheer on everyone crossing the finish line. Thanks to Whole Foods and the Town of Oakville, this year's Terry Fox Run will once again be plastic water bottle-free. Participants are invited to bring their own water bottles and refill them before and after the run. Compostable cups from Whole Foods will also be available. Longo's is donating fresh fruit, available after the run, and The Kin Club of Oakville will be selling "kin-eggers" and fresh coffee with all proceeds going towards the event. Again this year, the Oakville run site will feature special `In Memory Of' and `In Honour Of' road signs on sale for $5 each, honouring a friend or family member who has experienced cancer. There is still time to `Team Up' for Terry Fox. Teams can be as few as three people or as many as 200 or more; visit www.terryfox.org and click on the Team Up For Terry tab. Registration will also be available on site the morning of the run. Recently, Sammy's Old Fashion Chip Wagon held a fundraising lunch, while the landlord for South Oakville Centre is matching all donations to their team. Look for Terry Fox volunteers at Kerr-Fest Saturday (Sept. 6) from 4-6 p.m. to get more information or buy a T-shirt in advance. Local businesses, service clubs and families that team up with the Terry Fox Run are continuing a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of everyone touched by cancer. For more information or to volunteer, contact Cathy Duddeck at cduddeck@hotmail.com or oakvilleterryfox@gmail.com. -- Submitted by Pam Damoff and Keri Schoonderwoerd, chair and vice-chair , respectively, Oakville Terry Fox Run. 11 | Thursday, September 4, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com hirty-four years after Terry Fox was forced to end his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope to raise money to support better cancer treatment and research because his cancer had returned, people in cities and countries around the world are preparing to honour him by continuing the run on his behalf.
