D2 - The Oakville Beaver, W e d n e s d a y D e c e m b e r 10, 2003 Vanderjagt is closing in on NFL's longest streak Mike Vanderjagt was already the NFL's most accurate kicker heading into this sea son. Needless to say. he has become even more accurate this season, having been successful on all 33 attempts, including five in the Indianapolis Colts' key 29-27 win over Tennessee Titans in Sunday's battle for first place in the AFC South. Over two seasons his consecutive streak is at 37, which is the second longest in NFL history, and within striking distance of the longest streak of 40 which belongs to Titans kicker Gary Anderson who set it with Minnesota in 97/98. The five field goals was an awesome way to ring in December for Vanderjagt who had just been honoured for his work in November, being named as the special teams player of standouts were first honored. Three of Vandeijagt's 10 November field goals were from beyond 40 yards, with a long o f 50 at Miami, Nov. 2. The White Oaks grad and former Oakville Soccer Club standout provided Indianapolis its margin of victory in two of the club's three November wins. "It's great -- it's great to have it two months in a row," said Vanderjagt about his monthly recognition. Speaking prior to Sunday's game, he said "I'd like to get (the streak) to 50. That's a big, round number. Thirty-two is kind of odd. so we're not going to leave it there. If I settle for 41. and that sets a new NFL record, then that will be pretty cool, too." Vanderjagt leads the NFL in scoring with 136 points. Ron Kuzyk · O a kville B e a ve r Mike V anderjagt. caught in action last m onth in a gam e hosted by BuiTalo Hills, has upped his consecutive field goal streak to 37. the month. Vanderjagt was a perfect 10 for 10 in field goals and 13 for 13 in extra points in five November games to help Indianapolis remain tied for first place in the AFC South with Tennessee. Vandeijagt was sim ilarly honoured in October and is the first player in either confer ence to earn the dis tinction in consecutive months since 1993 when special teams Give the Gift of H ealth From the Y!
