Lottery makes 10 dreams come true By Howard Mozel OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The trouble with winning a dream home, says Russell Churchill, is that no one believes you at first. In fact, even he thought someone was pulling his leg when initially contacted. "I wasn't convinced and my wife Kathie didn't even believe me," said Churchill, who was tele phoned with the good news on Friday. Nov. 28 by Mattamy Homes Vice-President of Marketing Bruce Payne. "It took until Saturday for it to sink in." Churchill, who lives in Terra Cotta, is one of 10 employees of Toronto Auto Auctions in Milton to share in the 3.290 sq. ft.. $443,449 Mattamy WideLot home in the 9th annual Community Foundation of Oakville (CFO) Great Dream Home Family Lottery. "It's beautiful," said Churchill. "You could get two families in here." Most members of the group rolled into town this past Friday to see the place for the first time and were impressed with what they saw. That said, they plan to sell the property and divide the pro ceeds. "It's a great windfall for these people." said Churchill, who enjoys the country life. (His closest neighbour is a mile away.) "Some could really use the money." The home, located on Canonridge Circle at Gooseberry Way in the Upper Glen Abbey West community, has four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms including a Whirlpool in the master bathroom, a gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and three deluxe appliances, a cold cellar, ceramic tiling and hardwood flooring. It also has a custom-designed exterior with stone skirting, a dormer and a wrap around porch, plus a landscape package. "We were all in shock and we thought Russell was joking with us." said Homey. "Russell's always a kidder so we didn't believe him." Added Hamill: "The general consensus was. 'That's nice, now let's get back to work.'" According to Homey, the group has been buy ing tickets which benefit a host of worthwhile charities for four years, including Heart and Stroke. Princess Margaret Hospital and Cash For Cancer. The most the group has ever won in the past was $ 150 and a cell phone. Even so, she added, the group was always happy their ticket money was gojng to worthy causes. Not on hand Friday was Urch. who recently suffered a stroke, but is expected to return to work. Churchill said the win is especially sweet for him. "It's going to help." said Churchill. "It will put some extra cash in everyone's pocket." To top it all off, said Churchill, there was no jealousy among those co-workers not in on the win. "They were just so glad people they know won something." he said. Added Hamill: "I'm fortunate I work with real ly decent people."
