Oakville carried a 1-3 record into its final roundrobin game against the Mississippi Sox, a contest that began after the Beaver's deadline. A victory would tie the Whitecaps with the South Ottawa Blues for the last playoff spot, and Oakville owned the tiebreaker after beating the Blues 17-16 Monday. Four of six teams in the tournament qualify for semifinals, which are scheduled for tomorrow (Friday). The title game is Saturday. Intermediates The intermediate (U14) Whitecaps have advanced to the semifinals of the Canadian championships in Calgary after going 3-2 in round-robin play. Oakville opened the tournament with three straight victories, downing Saskatchewan 14-6, Quebec 13-8 and host Calgary West 23-2. The Whitecaps then fell 9-4 to Alberta and 12-2 to British Columbia in their final two preliminary-round contests. Oakville will face Alberta in the semifinals today, a 1 p.m. start in Calgary. Juniors The junior (U13) Whitecaps carried a 1-2 record into Wednesday's action at their Canadian Little League tournament in Lethbridge, Alta. Oakville cruised to an 18-8 win over Quebec's NDG Lynx in its first game before losing 14-4 to Lethbridge and 10-9 to Medicine Hat (Alta.). Cameron Dyck had three RBI and Matthew McGuigan scored three runs against NDG, with Justin Hui earning the pitching win. Tyler Stodulski and Michael Legge each drove in a pair, and Bernn Tabuyog, Justin Soares and Brandon Wassall all scored twice. Austin Fishwick drove in three runs and Brian Bowman scored twice against Medicine Hat. The Whitecaps were scheduled to face Whalley (B.C.) yesterday, Glace Bay (N.S.) today and Regina tomorrow. Oakville and Ennismore will open their best-of-five series tomorrow (Friday) in Ennismore. Game 2 will be played Sunday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, beginning at 7 p.m. In the quarter-finals, Oakville won the series opener 5-4 last Friday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, then finished off the North Stars with a 14-9 victory Saturday in Owen Sound. Luke Laszkiewicz was the hero Friday for the Titans, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period. Also scoring for Oakville were Dylan Gilbert, Brad Gillies and Cam Monroe -- Monroe's marker coming with one second left in the second period, pulling Oakville within 4-3. Jay Preece held Owen Sound scoreless in the final frame and earned the victory in net. Connor Latimer (two goals, seven assists), Todd Kozak (two goals, six assists) and Gillies (three goals, four assists) combined for 24 points in Saturday's win. Jon Mason added a hat trick and two helpers, with Cody Simpson potting a pair and Sean Gillies and Jeff Sehl contributing singles. Oakville scored the last five goals of the first period to go into the intermission with a 7-4 advantage, and put the game away by scoring the first four goals of the third period.
