COVID-19: The Kawartha Lakes Pandemic Time Capsule

A collection of local and general news articles, photographs, experiences shared by citizens of the City of Kawartha Lakes during the COVID-19 global pandemic shutdown, March 17, 2020 to the present day. The COVID-19 pandemic made the world reconsider standards of public health care, childcare, and debate on the future of the working world as global economies shut down behind lockdowns and stay-at-home orders to protect their citizens from the fast-spreading novel coronavirus or COVID-19. In Ontario, outbreaks at many long-term care homes led to an investigation in September 2020 into the living and working situations within the homes following deployment of Canadian military to support exhausted front-line long-term care home workers and alleviate short-staffed situations. As of July 13, 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic infected 1,421,447 Canadians (547,409 in Ontario, 1136 in Kawartha Lakes). 1,390,048 people recovered from the infection (536,603 in Ontario, 1070 in Kawartha Lakes). 26,450 Canadians died due to COVID-19 (9258 in Ontario, 58 in Kawartha Lakes). As of July 13, 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic infected 187,261,860 people worldwide. 172,407,698 people recovered from the virus. 4,039,060 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported worldwide.
