In the case of a rare exception, two St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School students have earned a Governor General Bronze Medal award. This comes after a data entry error was discovered at the high school. Last week, the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) announced the recipients of the honour -- those with the highest academic average in their school. Loyola's Doyoung (Kelly) Kim, was among eight Halton students who took home the award. Kim had an average of 95.6 per cent. However, it was subsequently determined that Loyola student Michelle Hotchkiss qualified for the award with an average of 96.75 per cent. The Governor General's office has made an exception this year and is honouring both students from the local high school. Hotchkiss will receive her award over the next few weeks, stated a press release by the HCDSB. She joins the eight other secondary students who earned the honour with a grade average between 95.3-98.8 per cent. Hotchkiss earns G.G. Bronze Medal Interlocking & Concrete Specialists The average is calculated based on the final marks in all Grades 11 and 12 courses, as listed on the student's official transcript of grades issued by the Ministry of Education.
