Aldershot pitchers Kyle Dowling and Billy Brand held the Chargers off the scoreboard until Ben Blacker drilled a two-out double with two outs in the top of the seventh (and final) inning, scoring Tyler Rymal from first base. The A's scored an unearned run in the third inning and added two more in the fifth. Webb starting pitcher Harris Voyatsis was saddled with the loss despite allowing two hits and no earned runs in four innings while striking out three. Hector Pina had two of Webb's four hits on the afternoon, clubbing a pair of doubles. The shortstop also made a leaping catch of a line drive in the first inning, stranding two Aldershot runners. Other Chargers' defensive highlights included Blacker throwing a runner out at second base from right field and Boston Elliott, Chris Tani and Osmaan Dawood combining to turn an around-thehorn double play to end the second inning. "Not bad for the first year running (a baseball) program and making it to the finals," said Webb coach Jay Anderson, whose second-year school will have its first Grade 12 students this fall. "We've got Grade 11s now. Next year, they'll be in Grade 12, and from what I understand there should be a few really good Grade 9s coming up. Add that to the team, and we'll be strong next year." -- A longer version of this story can be read at bit.ly/1u6M4QQ SENIOR TENNIS PLAYERS 70+ YEARS Looking to form a small group of seniors to play round robing doubles twice a week at Hope Park Public Tennis Courts (at a reasonable hour!)
