MIDDLETON, Nana Madge Audrey Middleton (Copley) passed away at her home in Amherstview, on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014. Madge was born May 26, 1916 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. Despite living through the Depression and World War II bombings, Madge always said she had a wonderful life and was blessed to be part of a large energetic family. Every Friday night was social night at her home and included singing and games. This love of "all things social" continued throughout her life. Madge was involved with Scottish Country dancing until "her feet just wouldn't go" at the age of 89. She tackled every day with a positive attitude and no complaint for life's woes. Her friends will always remember her ready smile and the twinkle of mischief in her eyes. The advice she gave to everyone was: "When you go into a room, look for the people who are laughing and smiling the most. Those are the ones you want to sit with." Madge was always one of those people. Madge was predeceased by her brothers Reginald, Cecil and George and her sister Constance, her husband James and her daughter Kay. She is survived and will be terribly missed by her daughter Marian Lumsden and her husband David, her grandchildren Jeff Lumsden (Cathy), Shera Lumsden, Rachel Lumsden, Dean Shavalier, Keri Manningham and Drew Shavalier (Linda). Madge is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, Emily (Shera), Malcolm and Aiden (Jeff and Cathy), Kaleb, Devin, Dean and Aiden (Dean), Ryan and Paige (Keri) and Kayln and Kyle (Drew and Linda). We wish to extend our thanks to all those involved in Madge's care over the years. Special thanks to Joyce for her gentle caring daily support for many years. Your dedication bought much comfort and relief. Our appreciation also to "her lady", Louise, whose companionship added so much to her enjoyment over the last few years and certainly many a good laugh. Further thanks are extended to Sharon who administered lovingly for many years and delayed retirement, Connie whose joyous sense of humour will be missed and Rhonda whose pleasant manner was much appreciated. We could not have cared so well for Madge had it not been for the special organizations that gave so much support: CCAC, Smile, Para med, Saint Elizabeth, Providence Care, Lennox and Addington Senior Outreach Services and the wonderful Palliative team. According to her wishes, a family service will be held at a later date. Since Madge shared the love of her husband's Scottish heritage, we are asking for donations to the Ryan Russell Memorial Pipe Band. This is a youth piping band created to honour a police officer who died in the line of duty. Among its members is Madge's great niece, Deirdre. They are raising money for uniforms. It is a not-for-profit organization. Donations may be made online at www.rrmpb.com. MARSHALL, Gloria Nurse, mother, artist, teacher, poet, collector, writer and friend.
