The hydraulic Standard Duo Rescue System -- consisting o f a cutter, spreader, ram and power unit -- will be used at the Oakville Training Campus for Emergency Excellence to instruct local firefighters and other trainees in auto extrication, thereby freeing up sim ilar front-line units aboard the depart ment's rescue vehicles. According to Deputy Fire Chief John deHooge. this is especially impor tant since such equipment is used by Oakville firefighters on a weekly basis, to simply pop a car door after a fenderbender or extricate a victim following a serious accident. The equipment -- which has indus trial, military and law enforcem ent applications -- also comes with techni cal expertise from Holmatro, such as the classes held this week by company dis tributor John Innis. "It's not just the tools, but the practi cal expertise," said deHooge, who explained his departm ent has used Holmatro tools for the more than 10 years.
