Act proposes numerous changes continued from p.6 Voter fraud is a serious issue, and could determine the outcome of a national election. The Act also addresses protecting voters from rogue calls with a mandatory public registry for mass calling, prison time and penalties for deceiving people out of their votes, or impersonating officials. It will also keep big money out of politics by allowing small increases to spending limits, while banning inappropriate loans to avoid donation rules. The Act also respects democratic election results by preventing the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) from removing a democraticallyelected MP based simply on a disagreement over an MP's election expense return. The Fair Elections Act will allow an MP to present disputed cases to the courts to have a judge quickly rule on it before the CEO seeks the MP's suspension, reversing the decision of tens of thousands of voters. Finally, the Act makes it easier to vote by adding a voting day -- reducing congestion at voting locations, increasing advertising on where, when and what ID to bring, and informing disabled voters of the extra tools available to help them vote. 9 | Friday, April 4, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Please Join Us!
