Old Bronte Road development moves ahead by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff 3 | Thursday, March 27, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com A plan to build two-eight storey buildings with 380 residential units and ground-floor commercial use on Old Bronte Road is moving ahead. Last week, Oakville's Planning and Development Council supported rezoning the land to allow developer New Horizon Group (Bronte) Inc. to build a mixed-use development on the west side of Old Bronte Road, just south of Dundas Street West. Staff told councillors in keeping with the cultural heritage of Palermo Village, the old vernacular brick house would be conserved, enhanced and integrated into the proposed development. It would be relocated on the property closer to Old Bronte Road to be more visible, said staff. However, a structural analysis of the adjacent barn found it was unsafe and is an immediate danger to public safety, according to the related Town of Oakville staff report. New Horizon Group plans to remove the barn, but is offering a site visit to local historical societies to peruse the barn and keep any artifacts they may want. Speaking on behalf of New Horizon Group, GSP Group Inc. Planner Caroline Baker added her client is committed to reusing the barn materials in the new proposed building, and also on a potential gazebo structure on the property. "When Memorial Hall was removed for the new Bronte Road there was a commitment to build a gazebo to commemorate the loss of that building and I understand it hasn't been constructed as of yet and the owner would be more than willing to construct it on this property adjacent to the relocated heritage house," she said. Baker added the owner is working on donating the barn boards to a barn further to the north that has suffered damage over the winter. In clarification of the story, Oakville residents speak against developing Merton lands near 14 Mile Creek, Oakville Beaver, March 21, 2014, the Fourteen Mile Creek Residents' Association says its overall position is while some additional development may be necessary in the Town of Clarification on Merton lands Oakville, the area covered by the Merton Lands Study should not be developed given its environmental sensitivity and community priority to preserve and protect this important river valley area for future generations. The Beaver regrets any misunderstanding that may have occurred. inside today's Spotlight Health Beaver www.insideHALTON.com 6 30 Travel Sports Classified 28 31 36 Frescho, Food Basics, Metro, Holland Park Garden, M&M Meats, Home Hardware, Pizza Hut, Barbecues Galore, Arrow Furniture, Salvation Army Recycling, Real Estate, Reitman's, Rona, Tiger Direct, Corbeil, Oakville Swim Academy, Real Canadian Superstore, Lowes Canada, Re/Max, Direct Buy Club, Starksy Find Foods, 2001 Audio Video, Atmosphere, Hudson's Bay Co., Smart Source, Michael Angelo's, National Sports, No Frills, Home Outfitters, Fortinos, Bouclair, Best Buy, Toyota, Target, Bouclair, Rexall, Maritime Travel, Longo's, Pharmasave, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sears, Toys R Us, Canadian Tire, XS Cargo, The Source, Drug Trading, Walmart, Sport Chek, Solutions, Centennial Windows, Future Shop *All flyers not necessarily delivered to all homes For home delivery & customer service call 905-631-6095, 5300 Harvester Rd., Burlington New subscriptions call 905-631-6095 or subscribe online at www.oakvillebeaver.com 014 S 2 I G RIN TION P S C LLE ERE!
