www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, March 19, 2014 | 28 PWHL finals in Oakville April 3-6 Fans of women's hockey can get a glimpse of Canada's Olympic future next month at Oakville's Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. The Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association is the host of this year's Provincial Women's Hockey League Final 8 Championship Weekend, which will take place April 3-6. Seven members of this year's Olympic champion Canadian women's hockey team are graduates of the intermediate AA league, and 10 current PWHL players are representing Canada at the under-18 worlds in Budapest, Hungary. Participants in the championship weekend will be the Nepean Wildcats, Mississauga Chiefs, Toronto Aeros, Whitby Wolves, Durham West Lightning, Stoney Creek Sabres, Brampton Canadettes and Bluewater Hawks. All but Bluewater finished in the top eight of the PWHL regular-season standings (the Hawks upset seventh-seeded Ottawa Lady Senators in the first round of the playoffs). Oakville was eliminated from tournament contention with a first-round playoff loss to Durham West. The event will follow an Olympic format, with round-robin games contested April 3-5, followed by semifinals and medal contests April 5-6. Admission to all tournament games is free to everyone. Additional information, including a full schedule, can be found online at www.pwhl.ca. The PWHL was founded in 2004 for players 21 and under to compete at the highest level of amateur women's ice hockey in Ontario.
