Last September, Shine Out! Shout Out!, an Oakville-based recreation program raised the funds from its inaugural hockey tournament to benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association Halton Region Branch (CMHA HRB). A cheque presentation took place recently at CMHA HRB headquarters at 1540 Cornwall Rd., unit 102. Shine Out! Shout Out! was developed by Oakville's Sparling family, along with their friends and hockey teammates, as a means to raise awareness for child and youth mental health and funds for peer-to-peer mental health support programs. Radhika Subramanyan, CEO of CMHA HRB, who was at last week's cheque presentation, says the association is looking forward to continuing its new relationship with Shine Out! Shout Out! in promoting health and wellness in the community. "We are excited about all they are doing to promote the wellness of youth in our community and are so thankful for this donation," she said. "We are looking forward to creating opportunities for youth to connect, talk about mental health and addictions, and get the support they need to be improve their well-being." Shine Out! Shout Out! has already begun planning its second annual hockey tournament fundraiser on Sept. 6 at Canlan Ice Sports -- orga- The Canadian Mental Health Association Halton Region Branch (CMHA HRB) officially announced last week it was the recipient of a $30,000 donation from Shine Out! Shout Out! The funds were raised through a hockey tournament in September 2013 as well as private donations and will be dedicated to starting up a youth mental health peer-to-peer support program in Oakville.
