US K70 VlCE0l'y. It is fourteen years since the battle known as Vimy Ridge took place. It was on Easter Monday, April 9th. This was the rst time the Canadians were in action as a unit in the great war. Starting at 5.30 am. the Canadians manned an `attack which resulted in the capture from the Germans of a ridge which had been stoutly held by the enemy {from the commencement of the war. gThe Canadians took as prisoner.- -three battalion oicers, fteen com- lpany oicers and 4,000 N.C.O. s and .men. The-taking of this stronghold `and the utter routing of the German `army was really the beginning of lthe end of the great war. The Can- [adian army fought so well, so de- itermined and courageous, that the ;enemy, who had till now scoffed at `Canadians, began to feel the allies .were stronger than themselves and `out to win. The Canadians fought lfor right, and right is might and al-l `ways wins out. The night saw =nearly all of Vimy Ridge, except a [few trenches, secure in Canadian hands. The wires were singing the simple message of General Byng: i"l`he Canadian have taken Vimy Ridge. To-day on that same high} c1'O.=t maple trees are bursting into; bud on this hallowed plot of ground.
